Return to Sierra Madre

Post » Sun Mar 06, 2011 2:05 am

Named the thread after the mod on the Nexus.

I talked to Christine and she made out how my PC would not be able to return. Now at first I accpeted this; but then thought a bit. Why exacly? Sure you have no idea how you got there - but you leave by walking out the gate, and pressumably spend the days/weeks/months making your way back to Vegas. Did I miss something? It should be as simple as charting your steps and then just retracing them.

Since i'm trying to roleplay my first character isn't even close to actually going there yet. I did send her because I was curious; but only completed the companions quests and entered the casino. However, I watched someone comlete the DLC on youtube and they just walked out the front gate to leave. Unless i've missed some contrived reason (Christine managed to part the gas while you leave) for you not being able to return it doesn't seem right. Anyone mind explaining? I'm just really curious.

Well, the theme of Dead Money is 'learn to let go'. So I think the reason we can't go back is so we don't go back and loot galore. In this case, 'learn to let go' of the Loot.

So, no paticular lore reason not to go back? I aready know full well that my Courier will want to go back if only to check on Christine, and perhaps even bring Veronica along so the two can make their peace.

What loot was there to take back?

If anything, anything of real value was sealed inside the Vault permanently.

The Vault is useless when you leave, the only thing left is the Casino. Once you break the bank, why go back?

I wasn't even aware you could break the bank. I stopped gambling after getting all the achievements associated with them.

My answer is exploration. The DLC site is actually not bad looking, until you explore every inch of it, and realize there really isn't anything of value or lootable. I like roaming, and patrols. I like wandering around and scavenging the wastes. Killing every bit of red I see, and either defending or scouting the white clicks on my radar.

Another thing that really pissed me off, the lack of a cannibalism for the Ghosts.

What do you mean? I'm pretty sure with Ghastly Scavenger you can eat them.

It's been over a month since I've ran through the DLC, but I did have Ghastly Scavenger the last three times I was there. I could not eat them.

The Courier was taken there by force, alone. After the DLC you could in theory take anyone with you, like Veronica. The devs obviously don't want Veronica and Christine uniting. That and 'letting go' is quite the opposite of 'going back and take anything that's not bolted to the ground with you to the Mojave.'

I wanna go back for the Ghost People and the death cloud.
I thought it was a [censored] design to give us a cool new enemy in The Pitt which didn't respawn and I think it's a [censored] design to give us the cool survival atmosphere and Ghost People in The Villa and not allow us to go back.
The place wasn't bombed.
It's entrance wasn't wrecked in a cave in.
It's not locked away in a one way in entrance that you don't have the key to.
It didn't give any ending slider that we can contradict by going back.
Doesn't make sense to me.
It's not like we can't find our way back.
if we could find our way back to the Mojave even though not knowing where we are then we should be able to backtrack back to The Villa.

Gabriel:What is even at the Villa worth exploring? There are no quests, nothing to kill, and no items to be taken. Just an environment.

Doesn't matter, the game has no reason to close me out of it and I wanna go back and kill respawning Ghosts.
Not for exp, but for the unique environment and enemies.
Also if I forgot something it'd be nice to go back and get it. (not the gold in the vault though.)

By the way, thread is in wrong forum, should be in "Fallout: New Vegas DLC Cheats, Hints, and Spoilers".

Why can't you go back to the Sierra Madre?

Because. That's why.

We can guess and postulate and hem and haw all day long and, I'm really sorry, but you just can't go back.

So.

With that in mind...

... clear the place out before you leave. Then there's no reason to go back, and no reason to wonder why you can't go back.

Problem solved.

Not problem solved.
I want to go back there with my character to hunt or be hunted by the Ghost People.
I want to go back there with my own stuff (but limit it) and then try to survive as I make up a goal to achieve in there.
I want to use that unique area for some horror/survival stuff.
I can't do that once I've completed it.
I have to create a new character for that.
And then I'm forced to go through the entire DLC again with a completely new character with the same DM stuff as before.

Hm, thanks for all the coments, even if a few were people trying to be smug about 'getting' the overall message of the DLC.

Gabriel, do you play on the PC? If so the title of the thread is the name of a mod on the New Vegas Nexus. A door is placed behind the radio in the abandoned Brotherhood Bunker that allows you to come and go from Sierra Madre at will. Future plans from the modder are also to be able to take companions with you; and perhaps even bring people there back too.

This entire thread was basically intended to tell me if there was any ingame reason as to why my character couldn't return; I could care less about the intended 'message of letting go'. It's more worldspace to a game map that would fit into a tiny corner of the Oblivion worldspace. I'm an explorer and like to examine every square foot of an area. Dead Money is quite hecric and doesn't offer that chance unless you decide to stay around for a while.

My guess is because they wanted this to be like the Operation Anchorage DLC for Fallout 3. Couldnt go back in there either. Which svcked, because the simluation pod was still there, they just didnt let you use it anymore.

And, no, it doesnt make any sense that you couldnt go back to the Sierra Madre after you leave. I would have loved to be able to go back and get some serious pay back on the ghost people with my Anti-material rifle. Lets see how tough you are battling me when Ive got my power armor on! Ha!

Anyway, your character can find their way back to the Mojave, why cant they just retrace their path and go back to the Villa? Screw letting go, that should be the player's choice, not something forced on them. I dont want to let go. I want to go back, kick some [censored], explore the sections I missed, get the items I missed, return with Boone and E-DE and carve a path of destruction through the villa. Thats one of the points of having and open sandbox style RPG, to be able to go back and explore at your leisure, not get booted out when the game says so for arbirary reasons that make no sense. You cant go back because you have to let go..... Pffffft. Thats assinine. Okay, I said I let go, now Im going back, bite me.

A good in-game reason might be that the journey to Sierra Madre is one that takes an inordinate amount of time. Because you can't continue playing after the events of the game's Battle at Hoover Dam, a decent explanation is that the Courier WILL return to Sierra Madre. He/she just intends to do so after this whole thing with the Three Armies is taken care of.

IF the Courier returned to Sierra Madre, in-game, the entire war would be over.

In which case, why bother leaving?

Another good in-game reason that prevents your return is that the security measures of the Sierra Madre will strip you of all the fun wasteland stuff you want to carry back in. AMR? Nope. Your favorite Remnants Armor? Nope. Chance's Knife? Not a chance. Chems? Food? No, and no again. What about the Holorifle? Nope - not after it's been tainted with Mojave Wasteland radiation!

Even Elijah couldn't stop that from happening and he was a science god who do anything.

Anyway, it's over. Nobody's going back (without modding their game) and that's just the way it is.

Enough people whined about lvl 20 and no continuation in FO3 and we got the horror that is BS.
I'm sure that if we whine long enough they'll go "[censored] it, let's just patch it in to shut them up." :D

I doubt it. There's always the "headache" factor vs. "money" factor.
