Reverting U Grids to their default setting

Post » Thu May 31, 2012 12:04 am

So been running Ugrids at 7 for a while and with the HD texture pack and feeling like adding a few mods I want to drop it back down to 5 since it really doesn't make much difference to me. I read there are numerous ways to screw this up so if anyone could link or provide a step by step that would be great. I know there have been some posts that contain this info but I cannot seem to locate them at the moment.

1. Open Skyrim.ini in your text editor of choice.
2. Launch Skyrim in a fashion that allows you to alt-tab.
3. Load your game.
4. Alt-tab to your text editor, change uGridsToLoad=5 and uExteriorCellBuffer=36 then save the Skyrim.ini file.
5. Alt-tab back to Skyrim, open the console, type refreshini and then close the console.
6. Create a new savegame, exit Skyrim.

You can now load your new savegame with your newly restored uGridsToLoad=5 settings.

Thanks Kastagir and double thanks for the quick response. I think I read somewhere that I should do this inside an interior cell and not in the outside world. Well going to hop in an inn in windows mode and change this back around. Thanks again :D

That worked but loading my older saves immediately crashes me to desktop. Not that it matters if I have to go back to that portion of the game I have my old ini saved. Thanks again man.

Thoth you have to do it with each save if you want them to be loadable with the new lower uGrid setting. It's stored per save.

Yea.. your .ini settings store per save, the older ones won't work because they are asking for ugrids at 7 when it is set to 5.
