Hi-Rez DLC vs Hi-Rez mods?

Post » Tue May 29, 2012 6:20 pm

Alrighty, I just started the massive DLC download, and I'm wondering about my currently installed HD texture mods like http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=607 and others (which are pretty awesome already).

My novice understanding is that texture mods with individual files under "\skyrim\Data\textures" will override the default textures in the bsa's. So with this DLC, what's the best approach?

1) Remove all previously added texture mods and simply use the DLC?
2) Keep the texture mods and also use the DLC?
3) Adopt some type of blend/mix & match strategy based on who has the best image (community mods, or Beth DLC)?

Recommendations? What's your approach?

I think you must keep some texture mods and use DLC, but in my opinion, all retex. mods better that that huge DLC with improved vanila textures

I removed my texture folder (Skyrim HD etc) and tried out the DLC on its own but to me it seemed like a huge step backwards! So, put back the texture folder and am now happily using both. I guess the DLC is an improvement for those who (for whatever reason!) don't mod their game but thats about it.

I actually tried the same thing too at first. Initially, I noticed many textures being greatly improved, but then I re-added my mods to get a nice blend. Overall, for me, the texture pack is a HUGE win.

Thanks Bethesda!!!!

P.S. I this is a bad time to request a Hi-Rez pack for Oblivion ;)
