Role playing as the same character?

Post » Sun Feb 13, 2011 10:34 am

Sorry if this has been discussed before.

Just wondering if anyone else has the intention of role playing as their character from Fallout 3 as opposed to a new character?

I was intending to do this, just wanted to see if anyone else wanted to do the same thing and what your reasons were :)

Nah. I prefer a brand new character.

It just wouldn't make sense for a person to realistically cross post-apocalyptic America for no reason, which is my reason (God knows how many times we've said this to the "XP carryover" whiners).

Maybe, its not hard to come up with a little background on your own though.

I'll probably try something new but I'm sure that there will be some stats (energy weapons) that I won't be able to resist.

Yeah, but...Ssssshhhhhh, hahaha.

I'm not really a big stickler for details with my role play. I have my characters background and specifics in my head, any game play mechanics can be tweaked without problems.

I also am a big proponent of cheats, I used them along with lots of mods in FO3 and I played the crap out of that game. Doesn't effect my role play.

I would role play as a great great grand child of the vault dweller and the chosen one and with the vault 13 suit its all that easier

I was thinking "yes". BUT.. who knows, the courier's backstory might be explained as the game goes on, brought up in xxxx, lived in yyyy, got into trouble with zzz and became a courier because etc etc etc, which might conflict with brought-in characters. Especially since there is a reason YOU were carrying the package and not some other schmuck.

but you COULD change the history of your character a bit....and make it so that when he finished MZ instead of the homing beacon hitting the CW, it hit NV.
simple.

and on topic, i am not going to RP as the lone wanderer.

I'm not. To roleplay as him/her is fine yknow but I can't accept any explanation for him/her losing all gear, skills and perks.
If I'm going to roleplay as Lone Wanderer then he/she needs to be lvl 30.
I can't accept it any other way.
And seeing as this isn't possible, no, I'm not going to roleplay as Lone Wanderer because I logically can't.

The Lone Wanderer has low intelligence dialog all the time. Surely the courier will be a little brighter.

I'll probably build my character like my Fallout 3 one was (high gun skills, low sneak, high big guns, high lockpick, ect). My guy is made for gunning everything down, surviving, and reaping the reward. Funnily enough, I always had the highest karma possible in Fallout 3.

Yes, I will be roleplaying my character from FO3. gabriel77dan does have a good point about losing the skills and perks, which I will need to think on how to address that but it will likely be due to the gunshot when I do. As for the gear, crossing post apocalyptic america would be harsh at least so my story on that is that he had to ditch pieces of it as he crossed the wastelands. This is where I'm glad about the Gamestop pre-order bonus since I can imagine that the suit is actually a Vault 101 armored suit and the pistol is the one Amata gave me as I fled the vault and the stimpacks are all that remains from my vast horde back home.

Hard to decide until I play the game a bit and get the feel for what I want to be.. I have a habit of building characters and starting over a lot.. Usually I start over until I'm so sick of starting over that I decide to just go with the character I built.

Definitely playing the same character. I tend to play in a mode where I envision I'm really there, and do that for most of the play-throughs (which is why I find it hard to explore the evil branches of dialogue). With NV I''ll definitely have to explore the other roles given all the dialogue/quest diversity, but the first play-throughs I will be role-playing the same general character.

I actually thought of playing as Dukov. Concidering he could easily be on the run from some screwup in DC, due to his nature.

The first thing I'll be doing after Colonel Tigh Doc Mitchell patches me up is attempting to http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=4094 my FO3 char's face. Here's hopin' the face data is in the same address in the FONV save file..

if the story allows it then yes, I imagine that the Lone Wanderer would find a boat, or hitch a ride on a boat (like the one from Point Lookout) and travel to the West Coast by those means.

the story of New Vegas involves you getting left for dead in a ditch with nothing left, so it would make some sense that you'd be without your stats or equipment. I do this because my FO3 character is modeled after myself and since I would do the same in NV it would be fun, like the OP to imagine my character having gone through all that and then going through a new adventure.

though this would only work if the story doesn't all ready tell me where I come from or when I was born.

I also quite like the idea of you being sent back to the wrong place in Mothership Zeta

I will probably roleplay the lone wanderer because i just do what i would really do on my first playthrough, the explanation i have for him being in New Vegas is that he got bored in the Capital Wasteland after basically becoming an invincible hero and left to start over in a place where no one knows him

or i might just start over as the new character

Well, getting shot in the head and left for dead in a shallow grave would make a plausible http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/BagOfSpilling, and it's not like the LW is immune to http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/CutsceneIncompetence *coughPITTBEATDOWNcough*

He hit his head while on the space ship in mothership zeta. When you fought in the cockpit they got hit hard and he hit his head, his crew finished up and tried to tele all of them back to the capital wasteland, but instead the homingbecon was reset when you hit your head against the panel and you poped out in New Vegas. You didn't know what happened and slowly began making up a story for yourself forgeting what life was like before you got braindamage. Seeing as you are on the otherside of the country and no one knows your background they belive you. You get hired from an unkown man to deliver a package. You take the job only to get a grip back on life and start your life with a clean slate. Instead your life restarts in a grave (Ironic?)
