Roleplaying a Redguard Explorer hows this sound?

Post » Mon Jun 11, 2012 7:47 am

My characters intent is to not be overpowered, just an average human who came to skyrim in seek of adventure/treasure and exploration. That means no smithing/enchanting/sneaking. Just training in one hand combat, light armor, lock picking, speechcraft.

Is archery overpowered by itsself? I hear its overpowered with stealth but since I am not using stealth is archery still OP?

Sounds like an interesting RP IMO. Archery itself is not overpowered as I have understood it(my brother have complained a few times that he think it is a bit to weak actually), but I have little personal experience with it since I am not very comfortable with bows.

Sounds good! But I'd reccomend the Imperial race as for exploring, you'll also find more gold coins. Just my opinion though, but I don't like Imperials that much either. :)

I would recommend hardcoe mods to - there are several out, some with thirst, hunger, sleep and some are with the addition Hypothermia.

I play such a Explorer, but as a Nord. I love to feel free, but it is killing me just to drink potions and never have to sleep.

these are the perks I set up for the class, I was thinking of doing the same thing. Also the illusion is in there for light spells and I will be wearing the Akli or however you spell it cloths and wielding duel scimitars to go along with the roleplaying.

I like the RP idea, OP!

And no, I don't think Archery is overpowered, even when in Sneak. By comparison, With the two main Sneak attack Perks activated a sword or dagger can do 6x damage on a successful Sneak attack. A Bow can only do 3x damage. Yes, when Smithing is taken into account, a bow will have any where from 6-12 more base points of damage per attack, but when you figure in the Sneak Attack multipliers a Sword or Dagger will easily surpass the Bow in damage.

And I won't even get into the Dagger specific Perk 'Assassin's Blade'. 15x damage is just sick, and if you get the Dark Brotherhood armor (the gloves specifically), then all of your Sneak Attack damage with One-Handed weapons is doubled... that means Swords, Axes, Maces, etc. hit for 12x damage, and Daggers do an insane 30x damage! Meanwhile, a bow is stuck at 3x damage for a Sneak attack.

So no, I don't believe that Archery is overpowered. I think that even if you pump everything into Archery, you will do no worse (but certainly no better) than you could do with a Sword or Dagger.

I have played in Assassins' Guild with every character I have ever created since Morrowind, I just love the Morag Tong and the Dark Brotherhood so much! They're absolutely my favorite character type, and the above paragraphs are just a couple of reasons why.

;)

Hope this all helped.

I too am playing a Redguard warrior who is traveling north to discover more about his Nordic ancestory (Great Grandfather was a nord) and to escape persecution from a local noble. He doesn't use archery unless he is facing a dragon. His Father was a sword-singer, and he trusts his blade more than any bow.

Archery is pretty OP. The slow time effects from the perks, the fast movement, and the quick draw all make Archer unkillable vs any number of foes. I have had to heavily mod my game to make playing an Archer challenging. It is fun and Challenging in Vanilla until you get too many Archery perks, and then it all gets too easy. If you're not playing on a PC, just be careful not to avoid making yourself OP with perks and you'll be fine. Although I have to admit, the time slow perks are pretty fun - at first! Just don't take more than the 1st time-low perk, or you'll just start to feel sorry for the poor NPCs who get in the way of your bow.
