Rule #1 of the College of Winterhold

Post » Wed Jun 13, 2012 1:11 am

If you're looking for a specific trainer to sell you the expert spells of your favorite school, that will be the ONE trainer who's no where to be found. Ever.

Or if you need trainers of multiple schools, they're all having a party in the Arcaneum and you weren't invited.

LOL yes true.

I'm looking for http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Phinis_Gestor.

He can be found in the Hall of Countenance at night and in The Arcanaeum during the day.

Then in my game, apparently, a dragon got into The Hall of Countenance or The Arcanaeum and ate him.

LoL, i spent days searching for Faralda, then I realized there are two halls Attainment and Countenance, and I had always entered Attainment, just accidentally on the other, and thought well... maybe i got there in the afternoon, or after midnight.

As I remember Faralda and Drevis --> Countenance
Toldir and Collete --> Attainment

That guy is the HARDEST to find IMO. I always just kept waiting out in the courtyard until he came through, and I think I found him in the Arcaneum once or twice.

Wait until its night and they are sleeping.
Easy to find and they dont mind being woken up for business.

Strange, they are all usually sitting in the Hall of Countenance doing nothing...
Except for the hour each day, during which they all assemble in the Hall of the Elements and one of them teaches the others about his/her school of magic.

This^

I've rarely had a problem finding a trainer and if I did I waited until around 1-2am and found them in their bed.

Many times, if I FT to the college, I can find a group of them exiting the Hall of Elements, or whatever the name of that place is that leads to the arch-mage and arcanium.

Shouldn't it be called "The College of the town formerly known as Winterhold"?

In all my games, for some ungodly reason, she's always in her room repeatedly casting Oakflesh (an Alteration spell, which makes it even more strange...) I just listen for that "shing" noise the Flesh spells make, and she's right there defending against the voices in her head or whatever.

That would be too hipster.

Nah, it's because the hold is called Winterhold as well IIRC. It's still a magic College in Winterhold.

Yes. Phinis Gestor is always the hardest one to find. I can always find Faralda and Noralen (Destruction and Illusion) but on the one character I used a lot of Alteration on, Tolfdir suddenly seemed to be on vacation a lot. The Restoration chick... It seems like the trick to finding her is to Fast Travel to somewhere and then back again. She's often coming out of the main building. It seems like when I do that four or five times she finally appears. Not that it matters but she's very bitter feels disrespected. She seems to think it has something to do with people disrespecting Restoration; but I think it has to do with the fact that she's surprisingly ugly. She needs to Restore her face.
