Run 'n Gun Perk

Post » Sun Mar 06, 2011 3:11 pm

I was just looking for some feedback on this perk from those who have used it. There doesn't seem to be any well thought out responses to the pros and cons of this perk on the wiki or anywhere else I've searched.
Also, if I keep putting points into the guns skill will this perk basically become obsolete?

I presume it's handyish for those who prefer to kite their foes and shoot on the move, although so far I admit the concept builds I've used haven't required it yet.

I have the same feelings as you - I would like to know exactly how it affects the game. I assume that just as gun accuracy is affected by its condition, accuracy is also reduced if your character is moving while shooting. Even if the gun is pointed right at something the character's skill and accuracy still play a part as to whether the target is hit. It would be nice to know how big an affect this has. I assume that it doesn't affect VATS....can you be considered moving while entering vats, which kinda freezes everything. I know accuracy in vats differs depending on whether you're aiming, kneeling, etc.

I chose this perk for my character because it does fit his personality, and I ended up using vats a lot less than I expected in this game. I still like vats, it's just not an auto-choice for me like it was in F3, which I'm happy about. I'm pretty terrible at FPS' so I'm breaking new ground :P. It's almost impossible for me to tell if the perk makes any difference, I just assume it does.

It is handy if you are not sneaky and prefer to use SMG's over assault rifles and machine guns. It is very easy to kite melee and having that helps even if it is not necessary.

VATS is very handy when using automatic weapons if you take the Focused Fire perk or whatever it is called that increases accuracy each time you hit the body part you are aiming at in VATS.

It's not a vats perk.

"The Run 'n Gun perk reduces accuracy penalties with one-handed ranged weapons (Guns or Energy Weapons) while walking or running. " - The Vault Fallout wiki

I'm just going to go with the idea that this perk gives you what a high guns skill gives. Or helps out low strength characters with aiming. I like to play in third person perspective and thought it might help, but on second thought I dont think its worth the perk slot.

There are accuracy penalties when shooting while moving....100 gun skill does not change that.

It probably works great if your run-n-gun type of player.

By the way, VATS works just fine in this game, you just can’t use for snipping from half ways across the map, which is what made “over powered” in FO3.

Ive got almost all the VATS and critical Perks (not done yet) and high Agility. I pick’em of from a distance in free aim, and if they get close to me I just drop in VATS. :gun:

Works like a charm man, trust me.

Just for discussion purposes a quote from the vault wiki "With higher Guns skill the player will be more accurate, and have reduced sway with the larger rifles. "
Youre telling me that 100 guns doesnt change that. Can you please explain why?
Also, does accuracy affect your "to hit" percentage or merely slow the swing of the gun down in first person?

I am saying that there is always a penalty... 100 in a skill does not mean 100% effective all the time.

Yes, accuracy effects "to hit" %

Is there any way to find out what the penalties actually are for firing on the move?

I have been using guns and haven't ever needed to take it because I felt moving was affecting my accuracy. Considering it only benefits one handed weapons that leaves many of the weapons you'll likely be using still with a penalty. I'm also unclear on when it is usefull, if I am aiming manualy I seem to be able to aim, move and fire about as well as I think I should while moving. If I am moving and I hit the VATS button I stand still while firing through vats so not sure if it works then either.

Crouching, aiming, and staying still gives you the best accuracy. Standing and moving reduces accuracy even if you are aiming.

In GECK this perk is set as "Modify Aim Moving Speed value 2.00". Which means that it doubles... something hardcoded. ;-) Hopefully that hardcoded thing is a negative multiplier for spread when moving and shooting. But I have no way of checking.

I'd always grab it - if it wasn't only for pistols.

That makes me think that it could be tied into the auto aim feature. Im no theorycrafter by any stretch, but I looked up accuracy on the geck and got a bunch of info on auto aim. Which looked like it had something to do with how close the bullets go to where your crosshairs are aimed. It sounds like the perk is fairly cool, but its not like it's impossible to hit things without any perks in this game.
