[WIP] Rusty Highways

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 3:49 am

Greetings,

Just wanted to throw up a WIP thread for my mod. I've had a early version up on the nexus for about a month now. Been working on it and wanted to share some pics - get some imput - etc.

What is Rusty Highways you ask? It's a mod for immersion mostly. All those highways with little to no cars on the road seemed strange. @ first I tried to ignore it thinking that over the years someone must have come around and did some respectful cleaning up of the Wasteland..then I thought..wait what am I thinking? It's THE WASTELAND! So around cities/homesteads you'll see less due to people using the metal for walls - etc whatever & having some respect for the dead - whos still out there..just hanging in the cars they died in. Well not all of them died..but a great many did. Just sitting in traffic - getting a speeding ticket - going out shopping etc. All of these people were never buried or even missed considering the whole world took a fall into nuclear fire. Anyway..some pictures follow. If you got any ideas let me know.

Current mod status & pictures
The mod currently adds trashed cars to the game from Goodsprings up to near Novac. I've tried to set up some traffic jams due to a car wreck. Also another spot has some poor driver whos been pulled over. Bascally I'm trying to set up the world as it was right when the bombs dropped. Some areas will appear as if people were just there. While others are trashed and twisted piles of metal due to heat & blast waves.

Alright so custom models follow. Thus far I've ripped all of the car/trust/rig models out and added seats & steering wheels to them. I also have some radio meshes I found from the bus niff but don't wanna jack up the polycount too much. Plus I'm thinking not all the cars would appear quite as prestine.

Alright so there you got it. I've got all the car meshes set up to go into the editor. Currently I'm arranging my bodies for placement inside the cars. We've got Mom/Dad/Baby/JuniorM/JuniorF - so just the whole swell family. I'm not sure if I'm going to combine them with the cars b4 export or set them up as their own niffs to add to the cars in the editor. Gonna have to try that both ways and see how it goes for me. Also don't worry - not all cars will have stuff in it. I'm wanting to set up some "scenes" if that makes sense? Some cars will have you almost tear up and some you will pass by glad that it's empty. I'm hoping for a mood here. Also what happened to the survivors that lived thru the bombings? Sure their cars died due to the emp shock of the bombs and stalled so was left sitting. But where did they go? I'm hoping if not to answer all these questions..but give the player some good food for thought and allow them to fill those gaps in themself. Well least until I get this done and use all these models I'm making for something totally fiendish. =)

So again..please comment - post ideas of what you'd like to see and I"ll see if it can be added into the mod. Also my texturing skills are less then average so if my creations offend anyone..sry bout that. Also I work a full time job so I'm not gonna promise any timeframe but so far it's coming along very nice.

This is a pretty neat mod. I know it's more of a scenery than a simple vehicle jam, but looking at those screenshots, I had the thought of you taking a few fire trucks, some skeletons and fire helmets and axes, and a children skeletons inside the school rubble, showing a fire being fought during the time the war happened. I thought it was a cool idea. (I'm a PS3 user, but I like to mosey around the Mods forum xD)

This is one of those nice, really atmospheric mods that once loaded, just seem "right" thanks for your work on this!

This mod along with TheCastle's increased spawns is fantastic, watching all the explosions while the legion and NCR fought was great.

... now if only it were possible to -sit- in those seats in those cars cars, behind the steering wheels, imagining what life might have been like two hundred years before...

... what a wonderful feeling that would be, just relaxing in my 2076 Chryslus Motors Highwayman... listening to my pip boy radio while I wait out the rain... ah yes... I can see it all now...

It looks good, so far! I definitely love the added interiors for these vehicles... that was something that always bothered me.

Keep it up! I'll be watching.

-Cheers!

Wait, so, you want us to actually emote while playing a video game? What a concept... :P

But seriously, I love what you have so far. I'll definitely be keeping an eye on this one. I'd encourage you to really mix and match those skeleton models with the cars. I think, if you were up to it, that you could do all SORTS of different scenes. Good luck with this one, I love the concept!

Well then...

... it's been a while since there was any word in regards to this mod. I hope that it's not been abandoned? This was one of the handful of things I was quite greatly looking forward to...
