sadly, i cannot continue the good fight

Unfortunately, I cannot continue to "fight the good fight".. so to speak. I just had to return my game today. The folks at my local game store were nice enough to give me a full refund. But when you encounter no less than 50 freezes, possibly hundreds of glitches, and countless (exaggeration) comments of people with similar and dissimilar issues in less than 1 week after a release of what was supposed to be a much anticipated game, one cannot help but simply give up.

Don't get me wrong, the game was extremely enjoyable. I had massive amounts of fun running up both my fame and infamy. The explosions were supreme, and there were some extremely fun guns (grenade machine gun!).. and the humor infused drama mixed with action was quite excellently written. ...all of this said, I must add: ..when my game actually worked.

I must now wait for either a re-release, hopefully with all patches released, and most if not all bugs fixed. Who knows when that will be? This is not a "I hate Bethesda/Obsidian/Fallout now!! I'll never buy a game from them evar!!111!! LOL :(" This is simply a, "Maybe next time, I'll rent it first to make sure I don't get a game that disappoints so massively on a consistent level of technical difficulties."

And for monitors of the board, the straw that broke the camel's proverbial back, was indeed another glitch that seemingly broke my system. I simply could not take another suggestion to "clear your system's cache" or "revert to an earlier save." These are horrible suggestions for a game that should simply work in the first place. The glitch was as follows if anyone else runs into this glitch, I would make sure to take note and save beforehand accordingly, lest be told by support the previous fixes for all freezes.. I was talking to some of the Boomer children, safely in Nellis, when the screen sprouted little green and yellow boxes, the game started making machine gun noises, and then the whole thing froze. The controller began vibrating as if I were being attacked. I hit the center button to restart the system, or get to the dashboard, but to no avail. Then I turned the system off with the power button, trusty as that usually is. And when that didn't work, I had to hold down the power button, which did turn the system off, eventually. But alas, the speakers on my TV still made machine gun noises! (the special machine gun you can buy from the brotherhood of steel), so I had to turn my TV off, too!

I don't really have any words of advice, as I am no video game programmer. I have no experience with putting something of this scale together, and I don't know what kind of testing goes into a game like this. Maybe you tested this game as thoroughly as one could. Maybe. But with as many people that are complaining about this game, and almost all with the exact same glitches and freezes.. someone definitely dropped the ball on this one.

Looking forward, strangely, to the next Fallout.. or I'd even take a workable version of New Vegas.
Cheers,
me

50 freezes? You must've gotten the short end of the stick with your copy, then.

Now, granted, there are definitely too many problems with that right now. My game froze so early (when I stepped out of Doc Mitchell's house for the first time, in fact) that I didn't realize it had frozen because I didn't know how the loading screen was supposed to look.

That said, I had it freeze maybe 10 times or so tops in ~24 hours of play. Not great but not exactly late game Morrowind, either. I haven't been playing for a day or two though due to the DLC save game glitch. If and when the fix comes, I'll begin playing again. If my save games are all no good and I have to start over, I'll be pissed but the game is just too good to say no to. I think that says a lot about how good the game is (for me, at least) that despite all these problems I and so many others still want to play.

Personally I'd never think of giving the game back. I suggest people just calm down, play other games or get work done and keep checking the bethblog and forums for a patch that fixes the problem(s).

The problem you're describing sounds like its a disc and/or a system problem and not a known glitch (though thats possible). You might have just asked for an exchange, the screen/sound problem deffinately makes me think its something more than just a normal glitch within the game. Just my two cents.

I can tell you it is not the system. I have had almost the same problems, how do you report the glitches when it seems like you are having to rest your xbox every five or ten minutes. I tried it on two of my 360's before finally giving up on the *******game. I feel very let down by the developers. did they even play the game before the release. I have never played a game with so many problems. I read somewhere that they are already talking about releasing DLC .. Seems to me they should fix the darn game before adding content that will not work in the first place.

they game will be fixed.. I agree that there are way to many bugs, however, a game this size will have its issues. I put the game away until the patchwork begins. Im not stupid enough to refund mine knowing that in the near future the patches wiill start hitting home.

All it boils down to is that game developers have been able to get away with releasing half-baked games for quite awhile now. Once they start taking a hit in profits this practice will end however. I have no doubt they're working quickly to resolve as many problems as possible but at the same time you have to give them a little leeway just for the fact that they did release it with so many bugs. They dont want to throw a patch out there that fixes half the bugs and makes 3x more. Most games that come out anymore come out with this process of release and patch... now if in 3 months theres problems.... thats a horse of a whole different color.

Now, now.. I never said I wasn't going to play the game ever again. I didn't say I hastily returned it either. I simply said that I returned it until they fix everything (or at least most things, games have glitches, it happens.. I'm not new or something). Most companies usually make a more urgent matter of things if they see their bottom line go the wrong way, though. Not saying the 60 bucks I paid and got back will do that, but if a large enough amount of people start getting their 60 bucks back, then their ears will start to perk. Or maybe they won't. Who knows? Not me. I'm hoping they do fix everything. I want to play it again. I played Fallout 3 about 10 billion times (exaggeration), and would like to do the same if they release this game with less bugs, or at the very least, *another* patch or 2 fixing existing ones. And if they do, I will be getting a new disc.. I did get a full refund (in store credit) because I did enjoy everything the game had to offer, bugs aside, and plan on buying it again at a later date.. I just saw no reason to have a disc laying around the house that didn't need to be there.

I sympathise with you. I just about lost it myself today when the game kept freezing at this one point, and then my save data ended up corrupted so I lost 22+ hours worth of work. :(

I'm not going to return it, however, because tbh I'll end up putting it aside for a bit anyways since Fable 3's out next week and I'll end up playing that for a while... good timing, since otherwise I probably would of ended up raging far more at NV... even thogh I loved the brief experience I had with it.
