Samurai Jack

Post » Sun Aug 14, 2011 10:54 am

So does anybody around here remember Samurai Jack. The awesome action-adventure animated series, which was aired in the earlier years of this decade.

I thought this thread could be a general discussion of what your favourite scenes or episodes are and what you think the outcome of Aku could've been, if Jack finally sought revenge or if it just continued on as a never ending story. For those who don't know what Samurai Jack is all about http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samurai_Jack#Aku Also here's a http://samuraijack.wikia.com/wiki/Samurai_Jack_Wiki to the wiki for Samurai Jack for those who are interested.

BTW this is one of my favourite scenes: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L-LyFMCIpok :P

Watched a few episodes on Cartoon Network when I was younger. To me it was little more than just another silly American cannon fodder cartoon (although as a kid I never watched many cartoons. I watched my first war film when I was 6 :))

If I remember correctly the creator died and I think that he may of planned to continue it or something. I am not sure I really liked the art style.

He didn't die. The voice of Aku did, though.

I remember it well. I loved the art style, the theme song, and the fact that it was willing to be a little darker than most cartoons. It was far from cannon fodder, Pistolero.

I watched it for a little while, but back in those times my main focus was Avatar: The Last Airbender.

Yup http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Genndy_Tartakovsky created Samurai Jack and has expressed real interest in continuing the series or atleast making a full length movie to finish it up.

The voice of Aku known as http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mako_%28actor%29 passed away sadly from cancer. He had done several movies including the character Akiro (Wizard) in the Conan The Barbarian movies with Arnold. As said he did the voice for the Demonic creature Aku and was the voice of Uncle Iroh in Avatar The Last Air Bender. Episode 35 of season 2 "Tales Of Ba Sing Se" has several short stories with 1 dedicated to the memory of Mako.

Apparently they've been working on a Samurai Jack feature film since 2009. Not sure if/when that's going to come out.

Anyway, I used to love Samurai Jack, and I still watch it on occasion. One of the best cartoons from when I was young.

Saw the entire show, thanks to Cartoon Network showing the whole series roughly three times on Boomerang, and I really really wish I gave it the time of day when I was younger. My favorite episode would probably be the Battle of Thermopylae tribute episode, and the episodes with the Scottish guy.

Statement is invalid. Does not compute. :P

Yeah well, I guess it's an acquired taste.

Too true, most of the episodes I remember which had the Scotsman were all very well orchestrated.

Of course I do. My favourite character, besides Jack himself, was the http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L-LyFMCIpok&NR=1 with a peg leg machine gun!

"What do you think of that, Mr. Pajama-Wearin', Basket-Face, Slipper-Wieldin', Clype-Dreep-Bachle, Gether-Upin'-Blate-Maw, Bleatherin', Gomeril, Jessie, Oaf-Lookin', Scooner, Nyaff, Plookie, Shan, Milk-Drinkin', Soy-Faced Shilpit, Mim-Moothed, Snivelin',? Worm-Eyed, Hotten-Blaugh, Vile-Stoochie, Cally-Breek-Tattie?"

So it's aired... right now? :P

Don't want new stuff. Wouldn't be the same without Mako, to be honest.

I remember Samurai Jack! I used to watch that alongside other cartoons such as Dragon Ball Z and Dragon Ball. 3 episodes come to mind, one where Jack has learn to jump high, and the other there were robots that disguised themselves are baskets or something. Oh, and the one where he has the cross a bridge and there is a scottish guy or someone wanting to cross too.

Awesome show. Have the whole series on dvd. A lot of the action scenes were pretty violent, but any sort of immorality is suppressed by the lack of blood and by the fact that the enemies were robots, aliens, or some sort of monster. There was quite a bit of decapitations and cutting enemies in half. Loved the story lines and humor though.

I didn't really like it when I was little. I like it now, though. They should make an episode in which he fights Lanius.
