Save Frequency?

How often do you guys save? I save a lot. I'm wondering if it's too much. But really, can you save too much? It's really just a precaution. A good one, in my opinion. Some of my friends think differently. How about you?

I try to make a full save about every five minutes. On my current character, a 100-health, glass-cannon mage who wears no physical armor and wields no physical weapons, I tend to save even more often.

I only use 1 save for a backup and do it about once an hour. I generally rely on autosaves.

I did have to delete my level 81 mage once because he was stuck in permanent sneak mode and it had affected all my saves. I should probably save more but i'm lazy.

Well, I have been playing on a new gamer profile since Late June and in that time, have saved over 1000 times. It's starting to feel like a disorder. Sometimes I save every two minutes. I wish I could kill the habit, to be honest. I rarely die, and when I do, an autosave would have done the job just as well as my manual save. But I can't help it. I've been doing it in every roleplaying game I've played since Morrowind. Maybe I should get help...

I have 19 characters and 2 save files for each-I save at a rate of about every couple of minutes or so and save over both save files one after the other so that if one gets messed up, I have the back up-I've gotten myself into this rather excellent and game-saving habit after learning how glitchy the game is shortly after it's release and I'll continue doing this in every Elder Scrolls game that comes out in the future since the better the technology gets, the bigger/more ambitious each game gets and the bigger the game gets, the more that's going on simultaneously that can cause a game like this to glitch horribly.

Also, those friends you mentioned that have the opinions of "saving too much is too much" is ridiculous; Do what works for you and be comforted in the fact that other players do the same thing and if your friend's files get messed up and they have to do a ton of work to get back to where they were, point them to this thread and smile.

You could catch a fish with it. I will never look at a picture of a fish stick being held by a drunk pirate the same again.

I save very frequently, every couple of minutes, sometimes more often during tough battles.

I don't save before picking pockets or opening locks, however.

If I get caught picking a pocket, getting sent to jail is a huge part of the fun of playing a criminal character IMO. As for locks, they are easy enough to pick as it is.

Not very often, although I should save way more often. If the PS3 had a quicksave option, I'd save every few minutes, but instead we have to save manually which can take a while.

I don't necessarily save that much, maybe every 15 minutes or so, when I'm in a place where there are no autosaves to be encountered, but I do save quite a bit. Now, the real kicker for me is that I carry at least 10 saves for all of my characters. Yeah, I don't really use them, but what I do is go down to the earliest save of the 10 I have, save over that one, rinse and repeat. :D

Is that for performance reasons, or you just don't like to have too many files?

I have around 1,500 saves at this point, for 4 characters.

You have 1,500 saves for only 4 characters?! MAH GAWD... Here I thought I was cautious about my save files at 2 for all 19 of my characters... You, sir, win some kind of epic cookie, FOREVER!!!

Perhaps I misunderstood your comment, but I thought you meant to say that you keep 10 saves and overwrite the first one each time you exceed the tenth. Why not simply keep making new saves?

I think it's a habit carried over from some game where my quicksave file got corrupted, so I make hard saves all the time instead of quicksaves.

Also helps in case there is any problem with a mod, so I can go back to a certain point before I installed the mod, etc.
