[BETA] Save Game Profiles

Post » Fri May 13, 2011 5:50 pm

What is it?

Save Game Profiles is an attempt to add 'profiles', or a system of seperating game saves, without the need for an external program. This is achieved by altering the INI setting 'SLocalSavePath' when the user presses a pre-defined button. Pretty simplistic stuff by the standards of most mods, really.

The idea behind it is to lessen the chance of accidental save overwrites by, for example, multiple people playing NV on the same PC; another use, as was suggested in the comments, could be keeping different groups of saves for different mod configurations.

Where do I download it?

How do I install it?

To install, extract SaveGameProfiles.esp to your NV '\Data\' directory, and enable it in the data files section of your NV launcher. Or, use whichever mod management utility you feel most confortable with.

NVSE is required! - Tested on v1.0 b5.

How do I use it?

To use, simply press Numpad 0-9 whilst in the title screen/escape menu, depending on which profile you want active. Saves will then be saved to a different directory depending on the active profile, e.g. 'Saves\Profile0\' to 'Saves\Profile9\' (a subdirectory of the default Saves directory found in 'Documents\My Games\Fallout NV').

There are some current limitations; users should see the Bugs/Known Issues section of this description before using this version of the mod.. Users should also back up their save files regularly.

Bugs/Known Issues

  • Using the Load menu will cause the profile to 'stick', until the game it put into GameMode (all menu's closed) and the main menu reopened. Mostly problematic on the title screen.
  • The active profile must be set each time New Vegas is started. Problematic when combined with above.
