Saves never Overwritten

Post » Fri Jun 01, 2012 5:26 am

Everytime I try to save over my old saves (or delete my older saves ingame) it does not remove the old save...

How do I fix this? Sorry if this has been asked before but my searches came up empty

Just delete the old save you want to get rid of (by using the "x" shortcut or in your save folder if you are on PC) and create a new one.

What you want, overwriting, is dangerous anyways. Overwriting the same file over and over can lead to issues for various reasons.

The "x" shortcut works perfectly. If it doesn't for you, you should verifiy your game (the integrity of the cache in Steam). And, as death_souls stated, overwriting a save over and over is not wise. Deleting them by hand is the safest way. I'm curious, why don't you want to do such a simple thing? You go to "My documents>My games>Skyrim", you open the "Saves" folder and you delete the ones you no longer want. That's it. :)

Why would I be in the support forums if my game was working as intended? That's why I'm here, that's what my post was saying. Whether or not its a bad idea should not come into it, its a feature in the game that is not working.

I've noticed the same thing and it's due to the deletion or update of save games not being reflected in the cloud version. Every time I update through Steam, the old saves come back. Sorry, I don't know the solution.

I play offline but the saves come back once I go online with Steam and it updates from the cloud save (it happens even if Skyrim isn't running and it includes saves for another computer I play on). It happens whether I delete them in game or from the documents folder. They just get added back into the Saves folder. I guess it's a problem with the cloud version of the saves and not Skyrim. It's not a major issue for me, just annoying.

You know that you can disable the cloud, don't you? In Steam settings. ;) As for me, I never enabled it.

Yup. You can also disable Cloud for individual games. I use Cloud Sync for a number of other games in my library, so I have it disabled just for Skyrim. Right click on a title in your Steam library -> Properties -> Update tab -> uncheck the "Enable Steam Cloud Synchronization" tickybox.

THANKS! I just did that. I am going to check it soon. But I am certain that is what was causing my problem.

if a moderator sees this, the problem has been resolved, feel free to lock, but I think you should consider making a sticky about the steam cloud and skyrim saves.
