Been reading too much fantasy lately, I need something refreshing to my diet. Anyone read The Quantum Thief? Desire of Many?

2001: A Space Odyssey by Aurthur C. Clark and Neuromancer by William Gibson are two of my favorite science-fiction novels (though they're very different types of science-fiction).

James Alan Gardener, he's the best author I've come across in quite some time. I've currently about half way through book five of his http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/League_of_Peoples series. Book #2 is something of the odd man out, it takes place on Earth while the rest take place in space and have some common threads the other hasn't, but it's still a good read. I'd certainly recommend picking up Expendable and seeing what you think.

A great sci-fi read is Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card and the series that spawned from the once short-story.

Frank Herbert's Dune remains Sci-Fi's masterpiece, and is my all-time favorite novel. Seriously, I blew through it in like a week. Do it.

If you've seen the David Lynch film, forget it exists. Same thing with the Sci-Fi miniseries (although I enjoyed it). No adaptation can possibly live up to what Frank Herbert did there. It's utterly amazing.

I didn't mind Speaker for the Dead but I felt that Xenocide really dragged and I never finished Children of the Mind. I've heard some people with similar sentiments say that Ender's Shadow is pretty good but I've never gotten around to it.

I really enjoyed Speaker for the Dead not as good as the first but still one of my favorite books. I ( with shame ) haven't had the time to read the others. :sadvaultboy:

It is brilliant. I need to read the rest of them.

You see bits of Dune in everything, Star Wars, Fallout, Morrowind...
