Screen Flickering during the battle of Whiterun

Post » Tue May 29, 2012 4:44 pm

Hey guys.

Alright, so I took the StormCloak quest and made it to the 2nd mission "The Battle of Whiterun." or something like that. When I fast traveled to the military encampment, I started getting a really annoying screen flickering problem. "http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Glar8iZbNhs" it looks like this as I really can not describe it very well. I've tried many things to fix it, like turn off/on vsync, updating my drivers (Although they where already up to date.) and trying dozens of things like window mode, and changing the quality of graphics from the launcher menu and still no dice.

My system specs are Windows XP Professional 32Bit edition SP3, 4 Gigabytes of Ram, 3.4ghz AMD Quad Core, A Nvidia GTX 460 with 1 Gig of it's own ram. and 2 500 Gigabyte harddrives with 300 Gigs of free space. My system doesn't run any anti-virus programs, and it's been maintained on a weekly basis defragging, chkdsk, and registry cleaned. I hope thats enough technical information.

And a bit of side info, somewhere into the battle, If I ignore the constant irritating flickering, I find my horse in front of Whiterun Glitching. Like it levitates up and down. Not sure if that would be a sign that this mission is broken, but I hope it helps diagnose this issue. I have a few mods installed form the steam workshop, but none of them would likely cause problems with that mission or quest in particular.

I am running the latest 1.4 patch too.

Also, if anyone else can confirm this problem or a similar instance, please submit to this post, it could require a hotfix or patch on Bethesda's behalf as it's very annoying to look at. Please help me out here.

I spoke with a tech rep over at Zenimax. They say it could be a problem with the main quest, I apologize for my arrogant posting but I conclude this topic and ask that it be locked. I'm just having a pretty bad day ;_;

Well I know you concluded it lol, but I had it too. I was a Stormcloak attacking Whiterun and the screen was almost flickering right off really fast.
Was expecting my GPU fan to fly across the room.

*EDIT*. Ran out of time earlier. It happened for me, right after we got through the first barricade, but before entering the city gates.
It got real bad too, I thought my pc was about to croak, but it stopped, and it hasn't happened since.
I didn't make the connection until you mentioned when it happened.
Anyway, just replied so you aren't thinking your machine is dying. ;)
