I screwed up Markarth....

Post » Fri Jun 01, 2012 1:26 pm

K i dunno what happened but when I finished all the tasks or whatever, the gaurds tried to frame me, so of course i fight them. I kill a bunch, run away, kill some run away. So then I realised that I prob just had to submit to get on with the quest. Now when I say I submit, the gaurd says i'm going to jail but then nothing happens. My only way out is to just fight them and run.

any thoughts on this?

now I can't even go in markarth without being attacked.

Do you not have a save prior to the "screwed up" point?

I had the same problem since November, The only thing I can say is avoid Markarth until January's patch if they fix it.

Well.... yes, the quicksaves/autosaves get overwritten. I manually save every time I expect circumstances to change though - because I'm like that.... I EXPECT to have unexpected crap happen.... 642 saves in my latest game mean that even the unexpected CAN happen and I will not be up a creek without SOME sort of locomotion....

I had this happen to me in another Bethesda game. I unwittingly did something wrong somewhere. I had no idea where or when so I couldn't even select a save to use.

So what did I do? I just opened the console and reset the 'aggression" flag for the guards. Simple.

Just return to the Temple of Talos where the guards were originally waiting for you. They'll be there again. Surrender peacefully and off you go.

Try to always make hard saves as often as you can. When it comes to huge open-world RPG games like the Elder Scrolls or Fallout series, you'll come to love yourself for having a save right at a perfect time in which you can revert back to and get yourself out of some sticky situations.

In fact, I just patted myself on the back earlier today for having a save right before entering the last room in some dungeon. After killing a tough Draugr named Mikrul for the Forbidden Legend I quest, I wasn't able to search the body and get the necessary item to move on in the quest. I would have been stuck and had to move on with out getting the item and hope on the slight chance Bethesda would someday fix this particular problem and I could go back and be lucky enough to find the body still there, item and all. Figured I would load up the previous save and give killing 'ole Mikrul another try and see what happens. A couple slashes with my sowrd and a few arrows later the baddie hit the ground and I was able to get my item from him, Checked around for anymore priceless goodies and I was out of there. This is just an example of where saving often comes in handy.

Almost the same thing has happened to me, I now have a bounty over 4000 for Markarth, so I have joined the Stormcloaks with the hope that they eventaully get to overthrough Markarth, then there will be new gaurds etc. I still have to to there for a missions though and I do this by stealth, to trigger some of the Stormcloaks mission I snuck around all of them and it was fine, just takes a bit of time and cunning ( and luck)

if you don't have any saves from before then it's too late you should have let them capture you

You can get Markarth back if you haven't advanced the MQ past the meeting you have with the Greybeards present, during those negotiations you can hand it to the Stormcloaks and this kicks out the current Jarl.
I had this same problem and sorted it out purely by accident.

I had a similer problem, couldn't get into the city to do the quest because of a 1500 bounty. So I walked up to the city from the stables, and the guards arrested me and let me pay the fine. I have also been arrested in other cities for crimes committed ealse where ?? But it payed the fines.

642 saves? I have over 1300 hard saves LOL I never rely on Quick and Auto Saves!

And yea, you should be able to surrender and go to Jail. I was confused at first and fought tooth and nail with those guards. LOL I just went to jail and the quest progressed.

awe man I've tried everything, I tried resetting all my bounties using console, but they still attack on site.
One time I got it all reset and went back into the temple of Talos and those 3 gaurds were there. The dialogue started up where he says he's going to frame me, and I basically submit and he's going to take me to jail but then he just attacks me.
