Scripting Challenge!

Post » Tue Jun 19, 2012 9:26 am

I have a small challenge for any scripters who are willing. If anyone picks this up I'd be so grateful, it's a mod I really want to happen. That is it's a personal journal mod.

Anyways, I'm going to paste in what I said over in the Nexus forums in this post http://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/576758-personal-journal-mod/page__p__4656418#entry4656418:

It won't be a huge intensive project, but just something you'll have to figure out. In all honesty I have no idea how difficult making this would be...

"Anyways! I'm looking for someone to make a personal journal or diary mod, like an in game book item that the player can write their own things in. Like this http://tes.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=15294 I've tried contacting the author of that mod, but got no response. I've been waiting impatiently and anxiously for someone to make a journal mod, often trying to mention it on the forums. So I just thought I'd put the idea right out there into the Mod Request section. I REALLY want a mod like this, but don't have the time to learn scripting myself, so I would forever be grateful to someone who could make this for me (and all the other RPers).

In that Oblivion mod there was a bunch features, things like automatically inserting the date and time. While those features would be awesome (and ideal) they're not necessary I just want an in game book that I myself can actually write in."

I have no scripting skill or capabilities, but I do so want a mod like this and I've been trying really hard to get someone to PLEASE make it... I would rather have a journal than most of the huge script based mods I see out there.

Sorry if this isn't the place to make any requests, I just felt it was CK related because I was "challenging" any skilled scripters.

I don't think I've seen anything like a text data entry function in Papyrus. The only text entry field I know of is where you enter your character name in the intro quest, and that's probably hardcoded...

Your linked mod uses a script extender. Give it time (ie ... come back in a year or more).

Yeah, will need SKSE with the appropriate text input function. CK has no such animal.

(And anyway, the Book Script is sadly lacking any functionality ... or any description of functionality, at any rate: http://www.creationkit.com/Book_Script)

That's too bad for me, but at least I'm glad to know that it's not going to happen for a long time. That way I'll just have to get over it.

Thanks

Is there any way I might write stuff down while playing the game in Steam? Outside of an in game book of course.

There's a lot of people using pen and paper to keep game notes. Skyrims poor misc quest descriptions pretty much require it.

I was actually wanting to write such a mod and was looking here for help. I guess I have my answer ;-). If I ever figure it out, I'll be sure to let you know. If someone else figures it out, I love to have such a mod.
