Season unending help : V

I started the quest after persuading the jarl of whiterun and now I wonder how to proceed. I haven't joined either side in the conflict so I'm guessing that I can remain neutral but I've wanted to join the imperials and now wonder is it too late to do so and the civil war quest line...

My question is can I join a side at the start of season unending (before doing anything for that quest) or will that glitch the game and cause some sort of quest blocking bug?

I'm also guessing that after the quest there will be no more option to choose sides and do the civil war quest as the quest is about a peace treaty

Over at UESP, it has a couple notes about joining before or during Season Unending:

If you have already joined the Stormcloaks before starting the quest, and favored Ulfric Stormcloak's desires all the way, you will receive a randomized level-based equipment at the end of the treaty.

Completing this quest will stop the Civil War, and effectively prevent you from gaining any more Stormcloak or Imperial quests until the Main Quest line is finished.
