First off, sales are thought to be around 150,000 for PC, Xbox 360, and PS 3 combined. That's not great, and is not a big selling point on making another, but stranger has happened.
Secondly reviews have been mediocre. Everyone agree's on the franchises potential, but also agree the game falls short of greatness. This also does not scream sequel.
Now, on the other hand, many games that appeared to not have a chance of ever seeing a sequel have done just that. The main one to watch is "Wet". Bethesda is wanting to use their Fallout, and Elder Scrolls money to expand into a full blown publisher AKA EA. There for despite Wet's slightly less then awesome debut they are moving it forward with Wet 2. Keep in mind though that Wet has sold just shy of the magic 1 million copies. Hunted may end up getting closer to that ,but it's doubtful. Wet barely made it and had the full blown hype patrol of two publishers behind it, only to fumble out the gate. Hunted has had little hype and any attention it was getting vanished upon release.
The question is how badly does Bethesda want to build their new franchises, and can they begin actually doing the job of publisher. So far this is not the case. Wet, Brink, and Hunted all failed to help Bethesda expand, because they failed to make sure they succeeded. If they do decide to continue these new franchises it's time for them to realize being a publisher is more then just releasing a game and hoping for the best. They should get no less attention then any of their internally developed games. Hunted is a cool game, but much needs to be done if Bethesda hopes to move beyond Elder Scrolls.
