Can someone explain to me exactly how to use and what exactly does it do?

If you get discovered (while standing), press 'crouch', and a smoke-bomb-kind-of effect ignites... but still keep backing off, it doesn't work that easily on all your enemies, especially not during daylight. ...ehm, it makes you 'invisible' for a fraction of a second, making a chance of enemies losing their targeting on you.

Just sneak toggle, you get 1 sec of invisablity/confusion every time you enter sneak mode (so if you spam sneak your perma invisible to the NPCs).
