Shadowing and water is messed up

Post » Fri Jun 01, 2012 12:37 pm

So i was in whiterun, and had recently gotten the Whirlwind Sprint shout. I climbed up on top of the Jorrvasker building, and turned and saw the wall of whitrun behind the Jorrvasker. I wondered if I could somehow escape the bounded-walls of the city by using Whirlwind Sprint. Turns out i was able to.... Now the shadowing is totally screwed up wherever i go, inside or outside, and going underwater makes the entire screen turn to a solid color with either black or green (water coloring).

I know this is rediculous and foolish of me but if anyone has any sort of tip on how to fix this, that would be very much appreciated.

My First guess would be to reload a save from before you jumped that wall. Maybe that would help?

I have had the same problem with the water ever since the 1.5 patch was released. What patch of the game are you in, maybe that is causing problems instead?

How are the shadows messed up? There are a lot of different glitches with shadows. I'll admit that I haven't had a lot of luck fixing my own shadow problems, but maybe myself or someone else will be able to recognize how to fix your shadows. Any more description on the shadows would be helpful. What kind of graphics card and drivers are you using (that might helpful information)?

As far as the shadows, it seems as if all of Whiterun's buildin's shadows follow me wherever i go, and when i turn or look anywhere, the shadows flip out and get even darker. The game was totally fine till i did this, and the graphics and drivers are all good. It doesnt effect gameplay at all, i am still able to do everything, it is just irritating that the landscape and graphics arent what they could be anymore.

Also, i believe i am on the 1.5 patch, but i dont hink this has anything to do with it

Does it look kind of like this? (I can't post links, so you will need to paste the following line after youtube's normal web address, right after the "dot com" part).

If it looks like that, there is a thread on these forums called "Update 1.5 Shadows are invisable, move with camera, have lines, Issue possably figured out." That thread talks about the same problem I think.

Some users have had the exact same problem you described with water after the 1.5 patch, so it is possible the 1.5 patch is part of your problem with water (like, maybe you didn't notice the water issue until now? I don't go into water for long periods of time myself, so it took me awhile to notice it).

If you haven't been able to play skyrim for months (and graphics card driver updates were a dead end) I found a solution that might help.

One Shadow Solution:

Thanks to another video I found a mod that fixes my shadow problem. It? removes the shadows, but keeps lighting FX, so the feel of it isn't really lost as much. The mod is called “Shadow Remover” and can be found at Skyrim Nexus.

Slight Water Solution: (note, I haven't tried this yet, but it makes sense to me)

As for the water issue, you can open the console by pressing "~" (or whatever your keyboard uses in its place).
Then using the command "tws"

This will toggle the water system on and off and let you see. It will look horrible, but if you ever need to go underwater for some reason this will make it possible. I'm not sure of any better solutions but I hope they are out there.
