Shearpoint dragon dead, but no soul given

Post » Wed Jun 06, 2012 1:18 am

Okay, so I happened upon Shearpoint in my earlier travels, and through a very lucky glitch (Just as he was about to destroy my underpowered butt, Krosis got stuck in the rocks at the center of the battle area, so pew-pew with the arrows) and got everything available there; Krosis' mask, dragon soul, and the Word Wall output(x3).

That all occurred about 20 levels ago, and I was recently given the bounty on the dragon there from an innkeeper. I traveled there, killed the dragon, took what it contained, and waited for the "ensoulment", but no go. Now, I've read about the WordWall glitching with the sound playing without the letters lighting up, area darkening, etc., so that question is answered, but why no soul from the dragon? I read that the dragon there does re-spawn, so it's not a surprise that another one is there. Is this a common occurrence for some dragons? I should mention that I am at level 38, and the dragons I now encounter are the "Elder" variety, while this one was a standard, and was very easy to kill, leaving me to believe that it was stuck at my earlier level.

Not a big deal, but I have such a fear of glitches being a sign of an ensuing broken game, that I really hope this is fairly normal behavior. Thanks for any help/info.

EDIT: I forgot to mention that the dragon, while definitely dead, did not burn up, and is still lying there whole.

Dragons that respawn at word walls only give souls the first time round.

As Lord Vukodlak already pointed out, the dragons that guard word walls respawn, but don't burn up and give souls anymore.

Meh, it happens. Take joy in killing them, souls are extra.

Thanks, M'lord, and Navelpluis, etc. That's a relief, though I sure wouldn't have said no to another dragon soul, but s13racer316 is right, and I'll take the bones/plate/gold/etc.

Does that also mean that the dragons that respawn will only be at the level you first kill them at? Or did I mebbe just get a loser dragon this time?

Errr no that's not entirely true. SOME dragons that respawn don't give souls at word walls. But some of them do.

I think they are usu scaled to your level, but every now and then I get a random "Dragon" that I 1-shot. I figure the ones at word walls will be scaled though.

Some what, if you spend a lot of time exploring as you level up and encountering lots of dragons. Ancients will be rather rare. But if you reach a really high level before dragons start appearing or you do much exploring Ancients will be common.

All I face is Ancient Dragons. And since turning 50, the last Frost Dragon doesn't spawn anymore.
