Shield of blocking = useless?

Post » Mon Jun 04, 2012 11:39 am

Need some input on some of the people who have been messing around with high level builds. I'm wondering if at 100 block, you are blocking 100% of damage with your shield, rendering a 20% extra blocked damage etc shield uselesss. Should I go for an elemental resist instead? fire etc.

I went and looked on UESP for you and found this link for you: http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1313851-complete-character-design-freedom-damage-resist-caps-and-ridiculous-damage-thread-7/page__st__90__p__19786622#entry19786622

One guy says 4/5 perks or a 40% enchant hits the cap.

If I remember correctly, in regards to blocking and magic/elemental resistances, it was said that the cap was 85% and anything on your gear or perks, after that, won't go past that amount. Otherwise, 100% in Frost, Fire, Shock and Damage would make you unbreakable.

ain't even started maxing out shield yet. but i find block useful. and shield bashing to be awesome. It'll stagger an opponent good, and you can get two or three extra swings in. Besides, smacking some poor bandit right in the face is fun!

get elemental resist on your shield+ele resist perk. Then get magic defense on your other gear. Ele resist and magic defense stack, pretty awesome vs ancient dragons on master.

Thanks for that. Trust me I am not lazy, I did check the block skill on UESP and the discussion tab for that page, but I didn't know people discussed game mechanics on the forums, I thought that was all reserved for the wiki.

I'm still a little fuzzy on your info though, so you're saying that with 100 block skill and 4/5 in the block perk you're capped? I wish Beth would be more careful so people don't end up having to waste perks like that.

So this info is a bit different to the above poster, you're saying 85% which would be a combination of gear and perks, and his info suggest the block cap would be much easier to reach. Wouldn't need enchanted gear to hit it.

yes, but with enough armor rating block is useless. though, bashing and shield charge are not. and elemental resistance stacks with magic resisance. magic resistance caps at 85%, which applies to elemental resistance too. if you have some elemental resistance gear aswell (shield) you can reach 92.5% elemental resistance. block is awesum

Well block vs ele resists is a whole other subject which I'm not really focused on. I'm not trying to build an invincible character, I just want to know what the block cap is.
