Shimmering FX see through walls

Post » Wed May 30, 2012 11:49 pm

Last year someone posted how to get rid of the "see through walls" shimmering effect from fires etc.

It was something to do with the Graphics drivers settings: but I can't for my life stop it shimmering. Tried turning on/off AA; on/off supersampling/multisampling etc. I must have missed some combination, as I remember it it was only an unnecessary tweak that one should turn off.

Anybody remember what setting you should avoid having in the graphics tab?

Cheers!

I have the same fire light problem in Breezehome at Whiterun. I have the shimmering striped effects on my character's face when I want to snap a screenie. In fact Breezehome is the worst example I have encountered. Is it a driver problem? Maybe an INI setting? I hope someone has a fix.

The thing that comes to mind is ...make sure AA Transparency Multisampling...is OFF. This is for nvidia . dont know about AMD..which are you?? If talking about the shadows ...see below

The middle setting for AA would be the equivalent in ATI CCC and should never be on....pick one or the other.

Yeah, thought I remembered that was the setting. Still, I see shimmering through walls, but NOT whilst looking level/straight at it. Only when I lower my field of view the shimmering passes through the walls.

Well, it might be some optimization that Nvidia done to the driver since last year. Last time I played turning off this setting got rid of it in all angles, if I remember correctly.

Thanks for your answers folks :D

You need to make sure some level of MSAA is enabled (in-game or in-driver). This appears to fix the issue (at least on Nvidia).

Great! Thanks Martigen. Hopefully this will fix some other gfx issues too.
