Shor....where art thou?

Post » Thu Jun 07, 2012 5:43 am

Hi All,

This has probably be asked and answered ( I did search I promise!).

In the final battle, when the Dragonborn is in 'heaven' where is Shor? I wandered around the building but couldn't find him?

If Shor lives there why is he abscent? The tall guy says his power is protecting the building...

Thanks

Shor is absent because Shor = Lorkhan = The Missing God

http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Gods_L

He was killed after the creation of the Mundus and the moons of Nirn are considered to be the remains of his physically apprehensible form (i.e. his divine corpse). IMO if he is present in Sovngarde it is not in a form that can be seen/heard, etc., at least not by the living, altho apparently the dead heroes in the hall have some communication with him as they say he has forbidden them to go forth and fight Alduin. Or maybe the doors of the Hall were all sealed pending your arrival and the heroes assume that this was Shor's will because he's the only one who could seal them.

He is not present in Sovengarde because the glory of his presence would blind our characters, Ysgramor or Tsun explains this during the visit.

Really? I'll have to do more dialogue the next time, I thought I went through every option possible with everyone there.

Or maybe not... I still like the idea of a "Missing God" better, lol. :P

Dur, on vacation. Keeping all those rowdy, drunk, fight-loving Nord heros in line is a very tiresome chore.

Lyn1964 is spot on.

It would be impossible to depict Lorkhan/ Shor because he is dead.
Mind that dead for a god is not exactly the same as dead for a human, even dead gods can dream.

even dead gods can dream.

But do they dream of electric Nords?

Or maybe it would be Dwemer-built steam-powered goats.

This. You are a soul still bound to flesh, and it's surmisable that beholding Shor as those who are not anymore would be... harmful to your flesh.

LOL. Sovngarde is Hell, not heaven. Can't you see you go underground? Shor and or Lorkhan is god of the underworld.

May be true, but the Underworld of most "pagan" religions is not anologous to the Hell of the Christian tradition. It's typically where ALL the dead go, not some place set aside to punish the wicked while the good are rewarded with eternity in some happier place. And obviously if there were some kind of strict heaven vs. hell dichotomy in the Nord tradition, Sovngarde would be considered the former and not the latter, so the anology still fails.

Given that TES "heaven" is going to the dreamsleeve, having all your memories stripped from you, and being reincarnated...
