Should Bayonets Have Been Cut

Should Bayonets Been Cut??

I think they would have made a nice edition to the game, but only if you could have used them. I have a sneaky suspicion that they would of been for show and therefore that's why they were cut. I think if you could use them as a melee attack would make the Service Rifle one of the best weapons in the game. Also adding them to the Hunting Rifle would have been totally rad.

What are your thoughts?? Right to cut or not??

It would be sweet to gore a man in the chest, them shoot him several times while it was still stuck in him.

That would have been sweet, but doing it to a Deathclaw would have been sweeter.

I can't see any way that they could actually work with the current game mechanics.

The thing is it doesn't really work with the current game mechanics. While mods can do with dual weapon mod, it only works in Pip-boy menu and no quick keys, unless you have script extender, which Bethesda doesn't support/adopt officially.

Maybe they should add a 'broken rifle with bayonet' melee weapon in DLC for a good laugh.

I agree, it's only for show and no play... but they could have put it in the game as a melee => not attached to the rifle

It's like Valkebus said. It's a core issue, not a ingame one. Even Joshua Grahams pistol whipping is a unique NPC only melee weapon, as opposed to a weapon that can do both.

Sounds like a balance issue.

Horseback combat in Oblivion would've been nice too, but I understand how it could be completely overpowered against certain enemies.
In this case, why use melee weapons at all if your gun counts as one?

Call of Cthulhu had gun melee. They were supposed to have bayonets, don't really know why they cut it, they already had melee setting for when you ran out of ammo. But if they did put bayonets in New Vegas, we would ask them to let us mod our Assault Carbine to add a Ripper as a bayonet.

Yeah. And if they had included it through some means, you wouldn't have gotten to 'stick your bayonet in some guy's chest and then shoot him a couple of time while it's still in him'.... no, you would have gotten the standard animation of yourself swinging your bayonetted rifle over your head at them like a sledgehammer, or swinging it side-arm at their legs like a sword. Those two animations are the only melee ones they bothered to put into the game . Utter svck.

I would be glad to have a weapon at the end of my rifle :gun:

A grenade launcher attachment  would be on my wish list as well.

For those saying it would not work with game mechanics, why not just have us click a button to switch to using the bayonet and swing and stab at close quarters? Then another click of a button and you switch back to shooting.

A. Tedious (Plus there are console users here)
B. You'd have to make a stabbing/swinging animation for the rifle
C. Mainly A.

It could have been done, if they wanted to bother. They didn't. Although I can understand how such a capability would have undermined much of the need or desire for anyone to bother with melee or unarmed builds.

Hey, guys, it could have worked, want to know why? The ammo type hotkey, adding the bayonet mod would add another hotkey option, but instead of changing ammo, your character held out the bayonet, mouse 1 and mouse 2 being stab and strike, it could have worked.

Assault Carbine+Ripper Bayonet=100% awesome. I think it would have added more uses with the combat knife and knives in the game.

I would have loved this, but I understand the difficulties. If we had bayonets in the game, I'd constantly be in the DLC forum screaming for a http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SKS. Constantly.

Changing ammo doesn't change the weapon dude. Changing ammo is just, well, changing ammo.

The function is a trigger for an animation and an alteration to the damage, it can be altered to change weapon function to melee.

The NCR using bayonets considering they fight mutated monsters and enemies like raiders and CL would make the MOST sense.
