Should I even get this?

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 8:04 pm

My friends from school and nearly everyone on these forums only complain about how god awful the DLC is and I literally havent heard one positive thing other than you get a couple new weapons and armor. I'm starting to grow weary of the wasteland and I want to get this DLC to take a break, but from what I've heard it will only ruin my fallout expierence and make me regret spending the microsoft points to get it. Is there anything positive about this DLC that can persuade me to buy it?

Thanks

This DLC is fun, the only way you can know for sure is to buy it yourself and hope for it to be good, not too good, not too bad that way you won't be disapointed if it's not as good, or be happy being it is'nt as bad.

Complaints:

Exploding collar - Not as annoying as you'd think once you learn how to handle the radios and speakers.

Level cap increase - It [censored] svcks and was unnecessary period.

Linearity - It's not very linear.

Combat focused - Yes, it's very combat focused but the atmosphere, the unique enemies, the deadly mist and the scarcity of items gives a great survivalist feeling.

STUCK AT END! - Just listen to what Elijah says and remember to actually READ the computer entries.

I want mah gold! - *sigh*

Stupid holograms! - Learn to play and stay out of their way, I had 7 in sneak and managed just fine to sneak around them.

glitches and bugs! - ... I experience one texture glitch...

With that said, it's a great arcade game and I'd advice you to get it if you want something a little more challenging than Vanilla game.

I liked the DLC a lot....but the fact that it puts the BAR in the game would have been enough for me to begin with. Taking out Deathclaws, Cazadors, ect in a hail of .308 slugs rocks bigtime.

Personally I think the way that Obsidian have done DM makes for a very nice challenge which is hard in a way not often seen in a lot of games, as in it doesn't just make the foes harder or deadlier, you have to pay attention to your surroundings.
Also taking the time and minimal effort to pay attention to what is said to you is well worth it (Some people from what I've noticed have been complaining about things they should have known if they had taken the time to listen and not just clicked through the conversations so they could get on with it).

If this DLC comes out for PC and I hope it does the only thing I think will put me off from getting it is the Cap increase to 35. I don't want to end up feeling like a god and I don't want to have to handicap my characters to have balance. Who am I kidding I am going to buy it if it ever comes out for PC. I just don't want the increase :sadvaultboy:

Well I thought it was really good, but I'm not going to try and persuade you to part with your money - don't want to be blamed for any disappointment :P But can you resist the call of the Sierra Madre? For me personally, curiosity gets me every time and I'm compelled to buy every DLC for my favourite games - they're never that expensive and I've wasted far much more money on much more useless things :)

I think it's great. It's a totally different experience than any I've had in the wastelands.

What are you looking for? A game that takes thought and planning and trial and error to get through? Or are you looking to sit down for an hour or two and blindly charge through without anything but a lot of bullets?

If you're looking for the latter, then just skip this DLC; you'll hate it. If you're looking for a bit of a challenge (all that thought and planning stuff), then you could do worse than to try Dead Money.

The forums are a breeding ground of negativity (especially in the bugs section), and you may have different tastes in video games than your friends.

http://xboxlive.ign.com/articles/114/1141699p1.html

There's IGN's review, Though I don't know who was blasting through this in 4 hours, I spent 10 in the DLC and I still didn't really get everything. No game breaking bugs for me (why doesn't anyone just play the game the way they're told to? When you're 6, If your parents hold your hand to walk you across the road and you pull your hand away and run backwards into traffic, that's not your parents fault, that's your own fault for not doing what you're told... the game holds your hand if you can read), it's some interesting new gameplay, a couple new weapons... it's hard off the start, which might have been the part that turned your friends off if they are the types that like to just pretend their God stepping on everything in the wasteland like bugs (my level 30 energy weapons/lockpick/repair/medicine character had a tough time with like a 25 in Melee weapons since there's not much ammo and you have to resort to fighting up close). If you have the $10 and want to experience more of the Courier's story, get it. If you don't care that much, don't worry about it.

I wish you the best of luck to actually understand, read and get everything in 4-6 hours which is something I advise if you want to get your money's worth. Flying through it will just make it a tedious and boring task.

No. Honestly, do yourself a favor and don't buy "Dead Money". One of the most disappointing DLC's I've spent money on over the past years. It's monotonous and repetitive. I couldn't finish it.

I thought it was pretty good myself, some parts were more annoying than I'd have liked but overall the DLC wasn't half bad.

As some have said it really depends on the player. It's one of those "Lose everything you had and use what you can find" DLC's (think Anchorage or The Pitt). You have to do more thinking and sneaking than running and gunning. The DLC is quite challenging, and that can be either refreshing or annoying.

In my opinion, it was an okay DLC. It is worth a look, but not a loss if passed.

honestly it svcks, there is poison gas everywhere, you have this stupid collar on your neck that blows your head off if you get near speakers or radios or whatever, i hated it, didn't finish it, gamespot only rates at like 6 i think, maybe 6.5 and it deserves a 3 if that, its the worse dlc for fallout i ever played, if you like rubiks cubes you might like it, if puzzlesolving is your idea of fun it might be the dlc for you, but its so annoying its not even funny, i know the guys here are trying to say how much fun it is, DON'T waste your money on it, its linear, no exploring, your head keeps getting blown off, this collar you have to wear beeps loud all the time, tons of puzzlesolving, its a joke.

I can't say if it's good or bad, as I'm on PC..
However before the advent of the interweb I could always pop down to my imaginary friends house 3+ miles away to play on his.
A friend should be willing to let you have at least one go at an area for you to get a general overview.

As for rubiks cubes I prefer cornflakes.

This just from my observations from youtube videos I have watched about dead money and some of the forum complaints here and xboxlive forums. The people that made most of those videos seemed to be the run and gun types. Basically FPS gamers, not RPG gamers,

You also have the group of gamers that are the instant gratification types and would rather have a target shooting type of game. kill something, get loot, rinse repeat.

seems like more and more gamers don't want to have to think when playing a game. thats part of the reason some don't like dead money.

Gameplay is monotonous because of the "figure eight" mapping. You constantly go over the same areas repeatedly. The DLC is alright once you get through the bugs. You do need a greater level of strength to use the 308 rifle which I always forget.(guess I should read gaming instructions before I play, but why start now)The sierra madre armor is nice lightweight armor,The halorifle is a powerful weapon, and after finishing and returning to the mojave....the vending machine is helpful with dispensing large amounts of weapon repair kits (if you find the vendors' code). But with the DLC, or the patch, I've found that other parts of the game have changed. ex. all the survival ingredients/requirements.The crafting item requirements. You do get a few additional (worthless) perks added. But ones take on a game shouldn't dissuade another because we all have different expectations And are upset when they aren't met.

Short answer: Fun, but can be irritating.

By the time you get to the vault it's like "Oh F*** goddang collars beeping yet again!"

Enjoyed the level bump, enjoyed the sneaking and paying attention to surroundings.

For $10. Hell yeah.

I wouldn't get it. There were very few new weapons and armor (most of which were not as good as the weapons/armor in the vanilla), the enemies were extremely easy to kill, there was hardly any survival aspect (collecting Sierra Madre caps allowed me to aquire 20-30 stimpacks within twenty minutes of starting the DLC), and the end reward wasn't really much of a reward. Gold, really? Nevermind I had 20,000+ caps to begin with...

The only thing that made the game challenging was the exploding collar. Its very easy to get around at first, but later on in the game you will start dying more. The holograms were also extremely easy to get around.
