Should i get a gaming headset for skyrim

Post » Thu Dec 08, 2011 9:50 am

Ok so back when i gamed on my 360 i bought a turtle beach x1 from a friend for like 30 bucks (they are a 60$ headset/mic for the xbox). it was probable the best headset ive ever owned as far as sound quality. well.. it broke a while back, i moved to the dorms, havent been playing as many games ( but still playing them :D ) on my LAPTOP now, because its a GAMING LAPTOP... and its boss ( lets NOT get into a argument about laptops and gaming, at least on this thread ;) ) ... anyway im thinking of picking me up the new headset x11, bout 60ish bucks, but it will be new this time. i wont JUST use it for gaming, im a music composition major so i listen to a LOT of music on my computer and having a better sound quality would be AMAZING. and also it will cancell out the noise of the dorm some (its not a noise canceling headset but the other one might as well have been it was big enough to cover both my ears completely )

the reason im hesitating is that im droping 120 bucks for skyrim ( 2 copies, one for me , one for brother who thinks he is going to pay me back, it actually an early xmas gift) ... and i took 2 days off work for this, so thats about 12 hours less, so about 84$ that im NOT getting paid that week. then the headset alone will be another 60 bucks, so now im up to 180 bucks... thats like 2 weeks worth of paychecks, i have the money, but im not sure i want to spend it

tl;dr im thinking of buying a turtle beach again, do you think it will enhance the skyrim experience

p.s. if you didnt have the patience to read everything i wrote and had to read the tl;dr then you REALLY need to go to a doctor... lol

Headsets are fatiguing. For a game like Skyrim, you want to be as little fatigued as possible.

Get some closed sennheisers. Steelseries are also incredibly comfortable (Siberias especially).

If you want them to be able to get the best quality sound from every aspect of the game's environment, then maybe surround sound your living room/bedroom

I don't know, but if I can ask YOU a question: Do they really add to gaming and immersion? My brother has one and says that in multi-player games like Battlefield, it's a game changer, and actually improves his playing, because of directional sound.

I actually didn't know they were only $60. That sounds like a pretty great deal for that good of a headset.

Love my turtle beach x41 7.1 headset..I use it at night when the lady in the house is sleeping. During the day on the other hand its much more relaxing to use the 5.1 speakers. The headset has amazing sound btw :)

When I am going to be playing Skyrim I will be using my turtle beach headset. The sound is soo much better and it will benefit your gameplay because you will hear enemies behind you if you dont see them, very good for sneaking

Peronally I love headsets. Games feel much more immersive when wearing one.

Does it really have to be turtle beach? Maybe you could find something less expensive. Anyway, a headset would certainly help play Skyrim.

Tough decision ... :| I will say, if you play in a laptop in that conditions (dorms) is better you use a headset, but if you don't have the money now... :(

I think it depends a lot on your household situation. I will be picking up a new pair Sennheisers tomorrow, because I do a lot of my playing late at night when my kids are sleeping. I just can't turn my speakers up loud enough to get the full effect, and my current headphones are not what I want.

I bought one so my friends and I could all live chat as we play the game for the very first time. Sort of like co-op!

Does it make me weird that I can tell the direction of a sound coming out of my speakers? I ask this because I only have stereo.

More on-topic: A friend of mine has a Turtle Beach headset and he has nothing but good things to say about it. The only downside is that after a while it'll start to hurt your ears, however that's something all headsets do.

never had this issue with my old turtle beach, i guess every now and then the tips of my ears would get a LITTLE sore, nothing taking it off for 5 min didn't fix

Nice headphones can be great for immersion. But not overpriced "gaming" headsets. There are great headphones out there, which ones I would suggest depends on your budget.

Take the most expensive Sennheisers you can find in your local electronics store... You won't be disappointed.
