Should a Pure Mage go for Enchanting?

There's no "should." Decide for your character. It's certainly a plausible thing for a mage to know how to do. The enchanting specialist says "people complain about mages but still come to us when they want something enchanted." You might not need the gear for your magicka, but it is still useful for elemental resistance, to outfit your companions and to sell.

Shouldn't sneak as it's overpowered, shouldn't use conjuration as it's over powered, shouldn't use Smithing as it's over powered, shouldn't use enchanting as it's over powered, shouldn't use alchemy because it's over powered and if you're a Breton, shouldn't use alteration as it's over powered. Won't the gob[censored]es give it a rest, we know, we're not dumb. Best of all, it's a single player game and as such no need to worry what I or others are doing in our game.

Add toi that, some of them are probably the ones moaning about destruction not being powerful enough. Just no keeping some happy.

I suspect the most vocal are the people who come on here claiming it's akin to cheating, yet get annoyed as they just can't help themselves when it comes to using 1 or more of the above.

I would use it but I wouldn't go crazy with it. I wouldn't go more than one or two of the same enchantments or your game can get too easy.
