Should the Creation Kit have a dedicated IRC for discussiona

Post » Mon Jun 18, 2012 6:30 am

Hello!

I was thinking, as with the forum you have to make a new topic for each question (most of the time), why not have an IRC (A chat system with chat rooms) channel dedicated for Discussion/Help concerning the Creation Kit?

To start things off I have already started a channel on the esper IRC server.

Server: irc.esper.net

Channel #creationkit

Or if you don't want to use a dedicated IRC program, you can use mibbit: http://chat.mibbit.com/?server=irc.esper.net&channel=%23creationkit

Probably not - what purpose would the message boards serve? An aside, everyone who needs the answer to the question will hop on the chat channel and ask it. The result: people answering the same questions over and over. This will just promote the lazy behaviour of those who never use the search bar

It's probably worth mentioning this Steam group here - http://steamcommunity.com/groups/SkyrimCKPublic.

Seeing as everyone using the Creation Kit must be on Steam, Steam chat can be quite convenient.

A little chat box embedded into the forum would be interesting.

Sorry about bumping an old thread, but I've been looking for an IRC channel for CK users for a long time now.

I only have good experiences of such channels. They are great for quick questions or detailed instructions for specific topics, not to mention you have a bunch of fellow modders to chat with while working with the CK. Off-topic discussion should be fine as well in my opinion. Overall, it's much more fun to build a mod when you have some "company".

About the "lazy people"... Is it really the easiest thing to connect to an IRC channel for an answer? If the person is using IRC already, why not just stay on the channel? Sure, same questions may be asked over and over, but it's not like there is only one person to answer it all the time. Even if it were so, at least I'd be happy to help. There won't be an unlimited amount of modders popping on the channel forever, and it's nice to help people advance with their mods. An IRC channel won't render the boards useless, just like other "competing" boards don't. There aren't that many IRC users to begin with these days.

The Steam group sounded like a good idea, but it seems pretty dead.

For me, even 2 or 3 active pvssyrs would be a great thing. So if there's any interest at all, let's make it happen!

Because the search bar is useful on this forum. :ermm:

Agreed, couple of us Morrowind modders had(still have that is) a Skype chat room set up for this, it's really fun to chat about stuff while modding, although it does take a bit away from actual modding time, but it's all fun so who cares. :D

I'm going to have to agree with Cipscis and say the Steam group chat would be the least intrusive and should work just fine...
