Hope someone can help me.

I just went to High Hrothgar for the first time. I enter, and Master Arngeir asks me to shout. I do, and see all the special effects. But afterwards he keeps asking me to shout, like I didn't. Has anyone else had this problem? I know there are other postings concerning this quest, but it's not clear to me that it involves the same issue. Help?

Have you exited High Hrothgar, went back inside, and tried again?

You are using unrelenting force right?

You have to shout at him i.e hit him with your unrelenting force shout.

LordBafford, I did try exiting and re-entering, but that didn't help.

Lord Vukodlak, I am using Unrelenting Force. It's the only shout I have so far.

Stick_Bug, I think I'm shouting at him. At least, I'm facing him when I hit the z key. Is there something else I need to do to target him specifically? (I'm obviously new at the game.)

The only other piece of information I have is that when I first arrived I'd already depleted my shout for that 24 hours. I exited the place and waited before entering and trying again.

You can't deplete shouts for 24 hours, that only applies with racial powers and some standing stones. Shouts recharge within seconds, unrelenting force is one of, if not, the fastest. When your compass is no longer blue and is normal you can shout again.

Perhaps you going outside/waiting screwed it up? Do you have an earlier save? Also, as someone else said you hit the guy with your shout when he first asks you to shout at him(just aim at him and shout).

press and hold the Z key ... it should make him stumble/fall backwards.... if he doesn't.. somethings wrong with your unrelenting shout

Tylerryan84, you set me on the right course. I'm still learning the interface, and I didn't realize that the z key was also used for Powers. I discovered that it was set to cast the Dragonskin power rather than shouting (in my defense, the special effects for the two are both blue).
