Shout creating - Why can't do?

Post » Thu Jun 07, 2012 9:45 pm

Why can't I take words for shouts, combine them with different word shouts and make a completely new shout?
I want to make customizable shouts!

I can just think of a lot of cool things to do with it.

"AUS UL BAH!" (Translated into Suffer Eternity Wrath)
"TOOR KEST NAH" (Translated into Inferno Tempest Fury) <---This as such would make you throw out an inferno tornado.

There could be hundreds more combinations...
maybe a mod someday could do such a thing, as that would be amazing.

What'r your guys thoughts on such a thing?

Each of the word walls has a story, written in the Dragon tongue, about the origins of such a word.

This is one of those instances where lore does trump gameplay.

I'd try to (just because I could) invent a shout to defeat all

Fade+Slow time+Wrath
not a bad start huh?

Wait for the CK, why should be able to craft shouts but not spells.
First freeze enemies to ice then push them around.

I intially hoped that the shouts would act like magic in Eternal Darkness. It had "words of power" too, you learned the words, their meanings, and by combining them learned new spells.

Ahh...

See, I expected the dual-wielding mechanic to function in the same way.

With bonuses, rewards rather, for combing certain magics and equipment (shield/weapon).

Shouts on the other hand, are more of an add-on to the lore.

With stories to each.

And should not make skills/spells irrelevant in my opinion.

Especially considering the ease in which one acquires shout words.

Well i suppose it's because it would require way too many combinations and possibilities, though I'm sure some amazing modder will create this.

Most of those words were created by dragons. But humans carved the stones. Dragonrend is the only human made shout.

A lot of good points here,
such being as some shouts being overpowered, to many shouts to combine, etc such as that.

Well for one obviously you shouldn't be allowed to do ANY 3 word combination to make an ultimate shout, but you should at least be able to mix them up to make some good ones and have some balancing to do with what they do.
Such as my favorite made up one would be 'Aus Ul Bah' or Suffer Eternity Wrath, would probably have an effect of a cripple. It would probably cripple enemies, disarming them, slowing them and them taking damage over time. Could balance it having a larger cooldown.

Another cool one would be "Frul Zun Laas" Which is Temporary Weapon Life, and what that would possibly do is it would make your weapon spring to life, and it would fight on it's own for a short amount of time (Not being able to take damage as, it's a weapon, not a living person, animal or monster)

There are many awesome combinations that we could do but we shouldn't be able to do all of them (most of them really) that would be pure overpowered.

Thanks for your thoughts though guys! Appreciate it :)

Eh... the only way I could see this work if it would work like the spell-words of Ultima, there's a list of spells and you have to recite the words for each spell while casting.

So how it might have worked in Skyrim, there would be a list of shouts you could use if you figure out their word combinations.

Actually combining shout powers seems really hard to develop and balance. I mean how would you mix Whirlwind sprint with Mark of Death?

I see the current shouts sort of as sets. The second word builds off the first word, and the third the second to create something powerful. If you were to combine different words, I imagine you'd just get a bunch of weak, ineffectual shouts because there'd be no base on which to build up power.

Yeah, the initial word of most shouts is fairly low-power compared to having 2 or all three. There's also the issue of how much of a shout's overall power is imbued by each component word: if words 2 and 3 each give more than word 1, and word 3 gives more than word 2, then a composite word consisting of 3 word 3s would be ridiculously powerful, especialyl compared to a similar composite of the related word 1s.

I just picked up the second word for storm call, and it's spectacular..can hardly wait to get the thrid.

Trouble is that there aren't too many uses for it as it's so indiscriminate...the most useful and entertaining use I've found is to creep up to the thalmor embassy and waste a few guards with it.

On topic though, it would be nice to be able to develop our own shouts...perhaps something for a future dlc to include.

Would be fun to use a Ice Form word, freezing them, an Unrelenting Force word, throwing them, and a Fire Breath word, just inflicting massive damage.
Imagine throwing a frozen, burning Lydia off the Throat of the World.
