Shouting at insects

Post » Thu Jun 07, 2012 4:39 am

Am I the only one? I know I can't be... but I just updated the UESP Wiki on this. (I did a search of the forums and didn't find it mentioned.)

Unrelenting Force allows the easy collection of ingredients from flying insects. The ingredients drop straight down, and are not pushed by the shout.

This really helps with fishing in shallow water. I have hard time seeing them. But not as helpful with dragonflies. When they die they sink to the bottom, and in shallow water I can't see what's underwater very well.

Really? So you shout and the wings, thorax's whatever just drop to the ground?

I wonder if it works on Hawks.

I've never even thought to try that. But it's brilliant. Trying to catch Histcarp and River Betties drives me nuts, and fortunately I can see underwater just fine. Time for my character to go Thu'um fishing...

I have personally seen Ulfric shout Fus Ro Day at slaughterfish, and they were dead when they floated by afterwards. Only other people around were myself and a follower and we were both in the water, so AFAIK the follower couldn't have been using a weapon on them (unless NPCs can fight in the water and I can't). Nobody involved was a magic user (other than the Thu'um) so I can only assume the Shout is what killed them.

That IS brilliant! I'd have never thought of that. Except my shout is a bit week, even after seeing the graybeards. Figured out how to unlock the other shouts with souls.
Tried it on a bear and he wasn't impressed. I had to beat him to death with my glass sword. Poor thing. LOL
Isn't there a water fix so you can see through the water better? I saw a few and I've been meaning to ask here what you all use.

I often will shout at butterflies if they are a bit out of reach, even for my tall Nord.

No, not like insects. It does not kill them. It probably staggers them or throw them like skeevers.

I'm gonna have to try it then, because as I said above I've seen Ulfric shout at them and when I turned around they were dead in the water and too far from shore for someone to have killed with any handheld weapon.

OTOH, now that I think about it I use a mod to bump up the power of some shouts and it's possible I had it in there when that happened. Altho I thought it only affected player shouts and not those of the NPCs who use them.

I feel less alone. Do we need an "I Died While Chasing Butterflies" support group? :D
