shouts...

Post » Mon Jun 11, 2012 8:03 pm

anyone else feel like shouts should have just been magic spells? most of them just mimic magic anyway, why not make shouts into mana based spell choices. it would have been awesome if alteration or conjuration would have been given clear skies and thunderstorm, illusion recieved slow time ect...

i dont know, just seems like they tried to introduce something that is unnecessary. not to mention the r2 button could have allowed dual wielders, and two handed fighters to cast spells making combat less akward.

This is your view on the subject, don't let anyone tell you otherwise, I won't agree nor disagree, rather I will accept your opinion.

The shouts exsist because they add a new prospective to the game, you have your normal basic magic abilities that you cannot upgrade then you have your Thu'ums which are unique abilities that you can uprgade.

Plus having magic assigned to your hand rather then a button is ALOT better then what it was, remember how you used to awkwardly toss a firball from out of your sleeve, it's more logical to hold the spell in your hand rather then that.

i know why they added shouts, but i still say they should have just been magika based spells.

i guess the fact that i play pathfinder and d&d makes the concept of cleric type casting(casting with hands full) acceptable to me. im hoping, very much, that when i get my pc version someone will make a mod to remove shouts and or turn them into spell.

Not at all. Making Shouts magika based would require any player planning on using them to invest levels and perks into skills that do not fit their class. You wouldn't be able to become the heavy armor, two-handed fighter you wanted to because you had to invest 5 perks into destruction, restoration, illusion, alteration, and conjuration just to be able to effectively use abilities that are endowed to your character.

Lore-wise, Shouting is its own type of magic, and as such should be separate from the rest of the magic in the game as well.

As for the R2 point, I think when you decide you want to carry a giant axe or two swords, you've decided to prioritize dealing physical damage to your opponent, and as such aren't going to focus on magic anyway. I tend to wield a sword in one hand and a spell in the other, because then I have options.

Well using shouts on my non magic using Nord wouldn't of made sense if it was just another school of magic wouldn't it?

Never use the shouts, forget I have them actually, never found one that was worth it.

The two do seem to go together, but the thu'um is dragon magic. I think the best term to describe it would be sorcery.
