Shreiking in Falkreath Forest

Post » Thu Jun 14, 2012 3:47 pm

After playing this game since the Novembe release, this is the first time ie ever encountered a disembodied shriek, which happened twice with about 5 seconds of just the sound of rainfall in between within this forest, it happened between 2~3am game time around Evergreen Grove, and that is DEFINATELY NOT noise that a spriggan would make.
Has anyone else encountered this before?
Btw, im on the xbox so it's in the vanilla game.

No idea. There was this whole effort a while back to find her, but as far as I know no one could.

I really doubt i'd be the only one to hear this though. The shriek was truely a bloody murder type of shriek though, closest representation that i can think of how it sounded would be a Banshee from Mass Effect 3.

I have. And the shriek is horrifying!
But I actually followed the sound and ran into an Elk. He was making that noise.
I now sometimes follow them in the forest to see if they decide to go at it again, but I only had it happen twice after that, once during a quest.

In that area, there is a white stag (tied to a quest) which emits an horrible shrieking noise before fleeing, sort of call.

If this is true, I'm now a little bit scared. :ermm:

I'll be sure to pay closer attention to the ambiance in Falkreath from now on. *shudder* And there was me thinking that nothing sinister could possibly happen.

I`m interested now !!! Falkreath you say.....around 2-3am you say.... hmmmm perhaps I got my quest for tonight  :drag: But as said before Elks make the same kinda noise, I have heard and seen them do it in game, but that still doesn`t mean that there is nothing sinister going on it`s just a plausible answer like "swamp gas hit by the light of venous causing you to see a UFO" I'm gonna camp out next to Falkreath just to see if I can find the source of the sound, but that being said, I have already completed the quest that the White elk is tied too so if that's the answer I should find out rather quickly.

It could be the stag, but i saw nothing except for trees. I haven't done said quest on this playthrough though. After readng the books about the woodman's wife, i'm not sure which of the two suspects it even was.

Know what I find far more interesting than 'The Woodcutter's Wife' and 'The Cabin in the Woods'? Their author. Someone by the name of Mogen Son of Molag. Now, the first guy that comes to mind when I hear 'Molag' is Molag Bal. That is to say, the Daedric prince of domination. He who bends mortals to his will by sowing chaos and discord in our realm. And what better way to create strife than to get a bunch of impressionable young adventurers jumping at every sound they hear in the woods? All it takes is two little stories, and there you have it: instant paranoia. Stranded alone in the dead of night with what you think is a howling spectre, well, it's enough to make a person go mad. Which is fantastic news for Mr. Molag Bal, enslaver of broken souls. As Molag Bal is unlikely to get involved in the nitty-gritty of having his tales published, he has his priest Mogen, his 'son', do the dirty work. So there's my personal theory.
Incidentally, neither of the stories ever mention the woman screaming. Whenever she's encountered, she's either sobbing or laughing hysterically. Just thought I'd point that out.

I believe she does. When the hunter tries to aid the crying woman, she turns around and screams.

Yes, it is. It's just the Elk bugling for mates. But it is a very creepy, sinister sound.

Guess I should've elaborated. xD Neither of the stories mention her screaming before anyone tries to make contact with her. Many people have allegedly heard her shrieking, but in 'The Cabin in the Wood' she only screams once the hunter actually approaches her and when he uses a Scroll of Firebolt on her. The way she beckons people seems to be by softly sobbing, as that's what initially draws the hunter to her and that's what he hears once he manages to flee the woods. If it's her intention to lure unwary travelers in, why would she be using something as hostile as a scream?

On PC? http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=12740

Not on PC? Don't bother looking for her, she isn't there.

This is shaping up to be "The Blair Skyrim project" or something.

Not really, though it would have been cool.
I actually found out exactly what the creepy sound is.
Would you all want to know what it really is, or do you want to keep the mystery and suspense going on?
