*Sigh*. Need advice on Proudspire Manor...

Post » Tue Jun 05, 2012 4:05 am

Hiya. 360 here.

1.3 failed to fix any of the bookcases and weapon racks in my game. I heard that it wasn't a retro fix, meaning anything interacted with pre-patch would still be broken. Only things used post-patch would work properly. But that's not the case. I held off on Vlindrel Hall until after 1.3, and nothing in it works. Weapon racks in Breezehome and Honeyside display weapons all derped and lop-sided, but Vlindrel racks don't even give the option.

I moved on to Proudspire Manor, but none of the weapon racks work there either (no option given). My question is, should I back up to a prior save and not buy it, in hope that this stuff eventually gets fixed? Or should I just give up and accept that nothing ever will? Housing is important to me, and I have no prior experience with ES. I don't know what the track record on this kind of stuff is.

I'm looking for advice, not reporting a bug. You can't 'report' something that everyone is already aware of. So I didn't see the point in posting it on the flytrap.

Just an FYI, stay away from Hjerim, the Windhelm estate. It will drive you mad.

Moving on, I'd say give up on the housing until they're able to fix the most basic issues the game has, like the lag and and save game file bloating. Chances are the housing issue will be fixed with player created mods for the PC before Bethesda begins working on it, so that leaves us console players at the mercy of Bethesda.

Good luck.

EDIT: Yes, BTW 1.3 didn't fix anything for me when it came to the housing, as I hadn't bought any houses yet and hadn't messed around with the shelves or displays or mannequins, but they're still broken. Forget to mention this in my post before.

Stuff like this in Morrowind taught me to never buy an Elder Scrolls for the console. I know what you are going through, I've been there. It svcks, BIG time.

My advice, for whatever it's worth, is to go back to the earlier save. That's probably not what you wanted to hear, but I really don't know any other way around it. Hopefully this will be fixed in January.

Only reason I bought Skyrim for PS3 is because my computer couldn't handle it. I have Morrowind and Oblivion on PC and I find myself playing them more often than I do Skyrim, thanks to all the amazing mods that are released by the modding community.

EDIT:

You think the housing will still be broken in January with the patch release if we bought them now?
Oh who am I kidding, I'll probably have three other characters by January considering this save file is already starting to cave in on itself.

Beside the occasional mannequin becoming invisible or disappearing books I haven't got much problems in Hjerim. I actually think its the best home so far in Skyrim.

On topic: I personally would back up the old save, Proudspire really is buggy. Move to the house you feel is best for the moment and hope a solution comes soon.

You're not having problems with the displays and weapon racks eating your items? You're lucky :brokencomputer:

I've done it. It works while I stay inside Hjerim. Once I leave and reenter, the mannequin is invisible with a floating head.

Go back to an earlier save. Purchase all of the upgrades before ever entering the house. I've done this with each house and have had no problems using any of the weapon racks, shield racks, mannequins, etc.

Edit: Forgot to mention that the bottom floor weapon rack in Proudspire Manor will only hold three weapons, not five like it's supposed to.

Nope lol I have one display case thats not storing my mace of Molag Bal properly. It looks like it sticks through the display case so I just hung it up a rack, where it still is.

Another issue regarding Proudspire Manor to be cautious of is the backdoor not unlocking properly. If you enter the house before the Thane moves in, it will be permanently locked. So, make sure you get the house upgrades and become Thane of Solitude before ever entering the house.

Well, the mannequins are still being magicians and disappearing, but at least I'm not getting random crap thrown around the house or display cases and weapon racks swallowing items.

EDIT: Not yet at least.
