Simple Question - Multiple Merchant ContainersFactions to On

Post » Thu Jun 21, 2012 2:38 am

Is it possible to assign more than one "vendor" faction with a container defined to one actor?

Here's what I'm trying to do:

A friend of mine has written some TES fanfiction and would like me to add it to the game for him. I've already gone ahead and added the book to the appropriate levelled lists, but he would also like Urag in the College to sell the book. The easiest approach would be to modify Urag's merchant container, but I don't want to do that, as I know from previous TES modding that this will conflict with any other mods that do stuff with his container, and that's not really fair for the simple task I'm trying to do.

So instead I tried adding a container to the shop and assigning it to Urag's ownership. Of course, that didn't work either because of the new vendor system tied into factions and stuff that exists in Skyrim.

I read up on how to do it correctly and decided to try creating a new "Vendor" faction, choosing my container as the merchant container, then adding Urag to this faction (in addition to his existing faction)

No dice. The new items don't appear in his inventory.

I copied Urag's original vendor faction and only changed the merchant container ID and the name of the form, so it should work, if it's possible.

IS it possible for a merchant to be assigned to more than one vendor container?

If so, how do I do it? I'd like to do this in the cleanest way possible, without editing things that are likely to have already been edited by other mods.

No, as far as I know, it's not possible.

In the CK you must actually click on the container to identify it as the one the merchant uses and there appears only to be the possibility of clicking one container.

As for not amending the existing levelled-list ... Like you I would be against, but if your mate wants Urag - and only Urag - to SELL it (rather than have it lying around his Library) then you don't have any choice.

(and yes, any other mod playing with his list would nerf yours, and visa versa)

Yes but if you read above that's not what I'm trying to do. I actually created a new faction with it's own container assigned to it, then assigned Urag to that faction. The question is whether or not I'm missing something to get him to use this second container. Can an NPC only belong to one "vendor" faction? Or am I doing something wrong?

Seems to me that it'd be fairly logical to have an NPC be able to belong to more than one vendor faction, and each vendor faction has a container assigned to it.

Maybe if I moved the container to a different cell Urag would sell those books while in that cell but sell the library books while in the library. Problem is, Urag never seems to leave the library!

Problem with altering the container or a levelled list in a player's savegame is that then the record for that container or levelled list will be stored in the player's save, overwriting any mods that change it as well. At least, if it works anything like Morrowind or Oblivion did.

I'm about ready to just drop the books into the library with no owner and say to hell with it. Why vendors can't have more than one chest is beyond me, and it's rather stupid.

Hm, no other ideas?

I'll try the quest alias thing probably. If not I'll just dump the books in the cell. Seems like with Skyrim if you want to avoid compatibility issues you have to be lazy and take a non-immersive way toward making mods. Unfortunate.
