Sins of a Solar Empire - Is it worth buying?

Post » Wed May 02, 2012 5:45 pm

I've heard of it before, and there was an for it on Steam. I've also been looking for a good RTS that has some level of economic build-up, and this game seems pretty good.

I want to get some opinions on it though, before I consider buying.

So, has anyone here had a good/bad experience with the game?

It's a good game. It's polished and the gameplay is good.

However, it has NO singleplayer campaign or story, at all. There is a "skirmish" type game mode that allows you to play by yourself against one or more computer players, but this obviously lacks depth. That said, you should only expect to have fun if you can find a few people who are willing to play the game with you, and multiplayer matches can last for several hours at a time, so that might be harder than you think.

It's amazing, waiting on Rebellion. I'm in the beta. Good stuff, Titans are wicked and truly give you an awe inspiring presence on the battlefield.

Yeah it's really good, also when you're playing against the AI. I never even played against people, don't like online multiplayer. One flaw, which also happens to be the reason why I don't play it any more, is that on the really large maps your game will inevitably slow down to a crawl, because of the massive numbers of ships (mostly strike craft) that are flying around everywhere. My PCs specs are way beyond the recommended system requirements (not very difficult, they're pretty low) but it still inevitably happens once your empire exceeds a certain size.

Buy Rebellion, it's a standalone expansion that basically includes the game and the two previous DLCs.

Indeed. The http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561197988732882/screenshot/594717102185901502 is a gun with an engine, and a bunch of other guns, http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561197988732882/screenshot/594717102185865871 kicks ass and looks like a japanese god-mech while doing it :hehe: Looking forward to the Vasari becoming available, one of their titans looks reminds me of the Ahwassa experimental bomber from SC:FA.

As for the game itself, it mixes RTS with 4X strategy, there is economy and diplomacy in addition to blowing stuff up. Three playable races with distinct look and unique strengths. It's a bit slow, huge games can take a damn long time. And as said, it doesn't have a campaign mode, you can play maps (and make them yourself) against AI or other people, story is left for the http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lG6FR_zF1aU.

One of the best strategy games i've ever played.

Excellent game, for it's excellent gameplay. If you're looking for any hint of a story, might as well play minesweeper. :P

I spent many, many hours playing this game. It's pretty sweet.

I hope we get to learn what's chasing the Vasari soon.
