Is there an equal in Skyrim to the skeleton key that was in Oblivion? If so hat's it called?

I believe you can retrieve a skeleton key during the quest line of the thieves guild.

as mentioned you get it during the thieves guild. however, in order to complete that quest line you have to give it back.....

If I can figure out what it's called exactly I can probably get the hex code and give it back to myself in the console.About the only thing I don't like about the game is lock picking. It's a PitA.

i don't think that's the right code. the skeleton key code is: 0003a070

1.) player.additem 0003a070 1
2.) player.addperk 00058209

adding the perk means you will never break a normal lockpick.

So, big deal, you have the skeleton key via a cheat. Just tried that. Tried to open a door at Gallows Cavern. Adept level (I am Apprentice). The skeleton key still broke many lockpicks. So, the key is NOT like in Oblivion. Thoughts? Did I goof up somehow?

sounds like you didn't use the right code and didn't actually get the skeleton key.

The Skeleton Key looks like a fancy ice pick. It will not break like normal lock picks

I have found that you really don't need it. The lockpicking minigame is pretty easy, you accumulate hundreds of lockpicks and you can have enchanted equipment and potions to help you.

Agreed the SK is ranked as one of the most useless items you can get. I'm actually glad you give it back during the questline. No matter what kind of character I've played locks, even Master ones, have never been a problem, nor the availability of lockpicks.

You can, but I'd just give it back to Nocturnal anyway. If you are good enough at the lockpicking mini-game, then there is no point to the Skeleton Key.

Personally, I just gave it back so that I could finish the quest line. I don't even put Perks into Lockpicking because I have the mini-game down so well. At a base level of 15-20 I am picking Expert and Master locks anyways, so why do you need the Skeleton Key? It's pointless to keep in Skyrim IMHO.

If you can't figure out the lock pick mini game I'm surprised you can figure out the rest of Skyrim.

I inhale at the lockpick thing. I break lockpics like crazy and it's getting old. I have no issue with the rest of the game.

Thanks for the codes!

Kinda worthless, imo. Only difference between it and a normal lockpick is that this one doesn't break.

Technically useful, but a huge letdown.
