I just found out that the skeleton key acts as a permanent lockpick. So that made me wonder why I should turn it in. Did anyone else avoid turning it in?

Thats the point of the skeleton key...
And I know many people used the skeleton key to get their lockpick to 100, then turn it in.
The reason for turning it in is to end the bad luck the thieves guild is having
