Skills points?

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 10:46 am

Basically i remember that the devs have reduced the amount of skills points.

Ive been bored for the past few days so i decided to map out my leveling for my character to see if i would become overpowered.

Barter- 15 -> 25
Energy weapons- 15 -> 20
Explosives- 15 -> 20
Firearms- 30 -> 100
Lock Picks- 15 -> 50
Medicine(spelling?)- 15 -> 55
Melee- 15 -> 40
Repair- 30 -> 100
Science- 15 -> 50
Speech- 30 -> 100
Survival- 15 -> 85
Unarmed- 15 -> 20

This disregarding perks bonuses, i presuming SPECIAL stat as straight 5's and we get 15 points per level (420 points overall).

What you think over powered or balanced? let mee know

or call me lame. Either will do really.

No one knows, and it's a fine line for them to balance.
But I heard them say that they did change how much they distributed.
But still, no one knows.

I think mostly what they have done is nuke alot of the skill boosts and change alot of former skill boosting things to boost something else and give a smaller effect to overall skill.

Still on average im expecting 5 maxed skills with idiots getting less and geniouses getting more. I would not be surprsed if some of the former effect of intel is now in a 2-3 level educated perk line and that to get much out of said line would require rather high intel. As for comprehension.. I realy hope they drasticaly changed how that works as that was waaay too much skill in such a low level perk and books in general had waay to much skill in total.

Still how they would go about anything othert then blah plus1x intel per level is beyond me as that would be rather icky to make work well without alot of coding and bother and genrral hairpulling.

Looks fairly balanced... but since there is so limited investment in Energy weapons, explosives, and unarmed, instead of going for entirely balanced, those points could be invested in something you use more often.

Seems fairly in line with what I would expect. Where did you get the base skill scores? And is this based on reaching the level cap of 30?

It seems to gel pretty well with how skills seemed to breakdown in my latest playthrough of FO2. Four maxed skills, a few in the middling range, and the rest low.

One point better count as two for tagged skills. Why they dropped that in Fallout 3 I'll never understand.

I wouldnt plan on 15 skill base from all 5s and dont forget its not all 5s you get 5 extra stat points as before...

Im planning for starting skills of either 6-15 or 1-10 and tagged skills giving 10-15 plus some non skill point bonus.

And im expecting books to only add 10-15 total to each.

Finaly I expect it will be alot harder to get a large boost from educated and comprehension.

I think there are no more perks that permanently change your skills and that it is a lot harder to become a god character

Because skills only went up to a 100 in FO3 and there were already so many available skill points in game that you could max all skills pretty easily on a single playthrough?

Well, I wouldnt say your overpowered being that you have one primary weapon class, and the other 100s are repair and speech wich arent combat related, so nah, your not overpowered.

http://video.advltswim.com/robot-chicken/nerd.html but really I think it's better this way, Now you won't have nearly every skill maxed out so you have strengths and weaknesses.

So take out some skill points. Makes the game more difficult, makes characters more unique, and gives more incentive for more than one playthrough. All stuff that Fallout 3 could have benefited from.

That is what they have supposedly done in NV. I was just commenting in response to you asking why tag skills no longer increase by 2 for every skill point. I don't think that is needed if the tagged skills start out higher than other skills and only go to 100.
