Sky in only one room of a Cell?

Post » Thu Jun 21, 2012 5:14 pm

I'm making house with multiple rooms, one of which I want to be an open air courtyard. I've read various posts about how to get sky effects and tried the techniques. My issue is that all my rooms in the house get the same weather and lighting effects of the courtyard if I select it for the cell. Is there a way to get the weather only in the courtyard room?

My other option is to put an exit/entrance door between the house and the courtyard and make that a separate cell instead of a room.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,

You can use roombounds to change where lighting effects occur, but I'm not sure to what extent. Is your cell an exterior worldspace, or just an interior with 'show sky' checked?

I am currently running with "Interior", with 'show sky' checked.

I have created room boundaries for various areas in my single cell. With the exception of the courtyard, all my rooms have ceilings, so sky effect doesn't matter one way or the other. The courtyard shows the sky as intended.

What I find is that when I select a room and bring up the lighting menu, (world/cell/lighting tab) I am affecting the entire cell, as the name indicates. This means that if I pick a lighting template, all my areas (rooms) get that effect.

I could live wit hthe default interior, but I'd really like to set the mood differently.

You can set an area's lighting with a roombound. Look up the roombounds tutorial that Beth did, it explains it. You should be able to put roombounds on all your interior rooms and the exterior, and you can set the default interior template, then using the roombound on the exterior, give that unique lighting/fog settings. (Or set the cell lighting for the outside, and use roombounds to set the inside. Either way)

I'll give that a try.

Thank you so much for the advice and help.

No joy.

I now have a multiple chamber interior which I have divided into different room sections. I have chosen my lighting for the entire cell and now wish to make several rooms contain a different lighting scheme.

I have watched the Bethesda lighting tutorial which shows how to do this: (1) view rooms and portals in the show/hide menu, (2) select the desired room, (3) bring up the batch action menu and click the "select lighting template" button - this brings up a lighting template drop down menu, from which I select my chosen template, (4) hit "Do" button

My result is that nothing happens in the render window. No changes to lighting are evident. If I close the Batch Action window and re-open it for the same room, the change has reverted back to the initial "None" under lighting template. Is there something else that I should be doing to make my change take effect?

Thanks for any help,

Double left-click on the the actual roombound (the big blue box) and this will bring up its properies. Go to the Bound Data tab and set your lighting and imagespace in there.

The changes will not show up in the CK render window. The render window will render everthing in the cell at the default lighting/imagespace of that particular cell. You'll have to go ingame to see the changes.

By George, you've got it, Tamb0 ! Thank you, thank you, thank you. I bow to your wisdom.

Not showing up in the render window is a big disadvantage. I guess I'll try temporarily changing the overall cell properties in order not to have to go back in game all the time to see the effects. I guess the people making the tutorial have forgotten how little a beginner actually knows about the CK when they do their thing.

Thanks again,
