Skyrim #143: Crafting Arrows

Post » Tue Jun 19, 2012 2:12 pm

Intentionally negative thread titles aside, I have some constructive criticism. :shifty:

We can chop wood.

We can collect feathers.

We can mine metals.

We can smith items.

We cannot combine these things to create arrows or bows.

This is absurd that we have all of the features needed for arrows and bows, but not actually create them. I would like to be able to make my own arrows, because it would help me role play a self sufficient hunter. It would also be useful for creating arrows that are somewhat difficult to find, like Daedric arrows. I believe the ability to smith bows and arrows could be included as part of a DLC or expansion. Does anyone else wish Skyrim gave you the ability to make arrows and/or bows?

Discuss! :starwars:

If you are on PC, you can DL one of the many mods that add arrow crafting to Skyrim, and then RP your self-sufficient hunter to your heart's content. :)

They said they wanted arrows to be rare. This was one of the things they actually managed to get somewhat right. I have no doubt that if they added the feature in as part of a DLC, it would become an arrow printing machine that spews out 99 daedric arrows at will.

Yeah, that would have been nice. I can really imagine how useful silver-tipped arrows would be against the undead.

Then the requirements for making daedric arrows should be tougher than other arrows. Something along the lines of 100 daedric arrows = 15 ebony ingots and 3 daedra hearts.

I have a feeling they have at least *tried* to introduce fletching in the game but did come up with something too overpowered. But I agree that it would be a great addition.

You can mass produce arrows as soon as you find one. Give one to an archer follower and they'll continue to use it. Arrows of that type will show up in corpses and littered on the ground after a battle. If you want to really exploit this... reverse pickpocket a good arrow into a non-follower NPC which shoots arrows at a target, and simply take the arrows out of the target as they shoot.

That isn't a very good argument... I shouldn't have to use goofy bugs, I should be able to do it through normal mechanics in the game.

Fletching is in the games programming, but for some reason in the end they decided to cut it, kind of dumb in my opinion.

You never run out of arrows, never in danger except in the very beginning.
Newer bought any arrows until I was rich and buy ebony and glass ones so I can dump loot at the drunken huntsman.
Arrowmaking had been an nice way to level smithing and more useful than making 100 iron daggers.

How overpowering? high end materials, are pretty rare and on opposite sides of the smithing tree. At high level you can buy around 50 elven, glass and ebony arrows at drunken huntsman.

Main issue with fletching mods I have seen is that they require hagraven feathers who is rare, so rare it don't justify making elven or glass arrows out of them.

The thread title is a bit of intentional flamming....but still It would be nice if arrows were craftable. I can hardly find dwarven arrows anywhere!

I dl'ed a crafting mod for arrows, but by the time I could smith the better arrows I had lots of stock and more gold than I needed to buy them so I didn't bother.

But it would have been nice to be able to craft them.

Nope. No idea what you're talking about. :) Do they take quarters, or something?

So what are the other 142 Skyrim fails?

Seriously though, I do have to agree with this. We've got all the materials for fletching, yet can't.

I usually collect enough arrows to get by anyway though (and my main combat style is archery), so it's not a major problem for me.

Oh thats right! I remember those, I rode one outside the grocery store the other day

...but yeah, fletching should have been in, and with the rarity that is daedra hearts, I doubt it would be too OP, even for Ebony, Glass and the others they could have put a somewhat higher ingot requirement, plus the needed feathers (which you would need to waste arrows getting) and the wood grinding would balance it out

I agree that they should have made it possible to make arrows - perhaps lots of other things as well - but arrows are certainly not rare. I've got untold hundreds of arrows on me.
