Skyrim Adventure

Post » Sat Jun 23, 2012 1:35 am

Well.. I just picked up Skyrim at the store! I have played oblivion tons of times, so I am not a TES nooby, but I'm new to Skyrim! I was wondering if anybody would be interested in me keeping logs of my adventure, you know.. From a beginners point of view. Basicly, every few hours of gameplay I would update this and give you guys a story on how it is going. Would anybody be interested? :)

Personally, I don't mind reading topics like that, especially if spelling/punctuation is on par. A lot of times it can refuel my desire to play or roll a new character. I say go for it. Besides, it might be fun to see it through the eyes of a beginner.

Of course! I don't think anyone's really done that before consistantly.

It will also probably get you lots of tips without you having to start new topics all the time.

I found the introduction clip rather long, however it explained the background of what was happening extremely well. When it was time to make my character, I thought about it for half an hour . I just couldn't decide! I ended up making a Khajiit. I plan on making him an archer . As I was watching the cut scene, I couldn't help but sit there in awe of the graphics. They are more amazing than any other game i've played. Then when I snapped back to the actual story, I saw a stormcloak get his head chopped off. It was a bit nasty . Then it was my turn to lose my head. I didn't know what to expect exactly, except that a dragon was involved. When the dragon actually came, I was excited. My first spotting of a dragon! All of a sudden I was unconscious. When I woke up to Ralof yelling at me, I accidentally ran the wrong way :swear: . I wasn't exactly used to the compass yet. It took me a few minutes before I knew where to go. Then, as I was running up the stairs, the dragon just burst through the building! I was too close and he set me on fire! I leaped out of the hole he made and into the adjacent building. I jumped down to the first floor and saw one of the soldiers and a kid. I started running until I heard the soldier tell me to stay back. Then, the dragon blew fire right at us. Luckily, I wasn't set ablaze this time. Me and the soldier ran all the way to a building. Then, I saw Ralof again. They both wanted me to go into the building with them. I couldn't decide, so I had to RP a bit. I thought "If I were in this situation, would I run off with the rebels? Or would I go with the soldier that led me to this building". I ended up going into the building with the soldier. Even though they tried to chop off my head, he also led me all the way to that safe building. I also figured that the soldiers would be better equipped and had the upper-hand. As we ran through the keep slaying storm cloaks and spiders, we spotted a bear. I decided to poison an arrow and shoot the bear. It didn't kill it in the first shot, but my second arrow finished it off. I looted it's pelt and claws, and exited the dungeon with my new found friend . He told me to head to a town where his uncle was the blacksmith, but he also said that we should split up. I ran off down the trail ahead of him, and saw some big stones. I got the thieves blessing . As I continued down the trail to the nearby town, I was attacked by some wolfs. They were faster than I had anticipated, but I killed them off. I looted some nice fur. When I got to the town, I saw a guy arguing with his mother over seeing a dragon. I told him that a dragon did in fact fly by. He gave me a quest to go talk to a girl. I decided that I would finish it before I left the town. For now I made some leather out of the fur. I need a little more leather before I can make everything that I decided on making though.

This will be my only update for today. I will hopefully have a new one up tomorrow

Haha, I'm loving it. I always seem to end up as an archer, even when I set out to be something else. It's just my comfort zone, I guess. I don't think this is a spoiler, but as far as I know, archery doesn't fall under the Thief Stone. I know, right? I didn't find that out until today. Something that I've found to increase the immersion is to roleplay the hell out of it. For instance, I had a hunter who would hunt and cook her own meat and eat at least once a day. She also slept every night. If I wasn't sure I could find another bed before around 9pm, I'd stay where I was, maybe even go to sleep earlier. Or, as I love doing, read a book or two that I found along the way and just pretend that time had elapsed. She usually woke up around 4:30 to get a head start on her day. Keep it up!

EDIT: Forgot to add how psyched I am that you're doing Dead is Dead on your first playthrough. I keep forgetting to roll a character to play that way. Gonna up my difficulty when I do it, though, to make it feel as urgent as it really is. Maybe once Dawnguard drops I'll get to it.

After I went to the blacksmith to see what I could make, I went inside and talked to him about the dragon attack. He told me that I should head to Whiterun and inform the Jarl about the attack so that troops could come and protect Riverwood. I picked up a book on the table named "The Gentleman's Guide to Whiterun". I read it and found it pretty informative. I think I will read a lot of the books that I happen to come across . As I walked out of the blacksmith's home, I met a random man . I gave him some mead because that's the kind of person that I am . I saw Faendal and he told me to deliver a letter saying that Sven wrote it. . I decided to do as Faendal asked, and I gave the letter to Camilla and told her that Sven wrote it. I went back to Faendal and now he is my first follower! I'm not sure if it's a good or bad thing that he is an archer like me. I got a quest from Camilla's brother saying that his house had been robbed, but they only seemed to take one thing. I decided that before I headed over to Bleak Falls Burrow I would go to Whiterun and inform the Jarl of the dragon attack. On my way, I saw a random deer swimming in the river. I took a shot at it, and completely missed :stare:. I tried to chase it down and completely failed :touched: . Further along the path, I saw a huge giant in the distance. They are massive! I decided that since I couldn't kill a deer, I would kill the giant! As I got closer to it, I realized that some people were already attacking it. I helped them take him down with my dead eye accuracy . They are apparently members of a guild called the Companions. The huntress told me to go to _______ and join up. It's a really good offer, I will definitely join them later. As I arrived at Whiterun, I was, once again, in awe! It's an amazing town, and it looks even greater with the mountains in the background! I went up to meet the Jarl and he took me over to his court wizard. I got another quest to go to Bleak Falls Burrow and recover some sort of... stone? I decided to go to sleep, as It was already 11pm. I woke up at 6am and realized that I needed to wait until 9 for the shops to open  . I went inside and sold all of my loot from the stormcloak's that I killed while I was escaping Helgen. I leveled up from selling stuff and I took the Overdraw perk <20% more bow damage>. I think it will be very useful since my bow isn't very strong right now. I set off for Riverwood at roughly 10am. I needed to go back to Riverwood because it was near Bleak Falls Burrow. I saw a herd of elk together. I wanted to avenge my previous fail, so this time I crouched down. I hit the biggest one, but it didn't kill it! I had to chase after it.. again! It was getting away so I took a last second shot. I must of been 50ft away and I killed it ! I was feeling pretty good about my skills . I finally got to Riverwood at 1pm. Since I didn't know If I could make it to Bleak Fall Barrow in time I decided to spend the night. But who wants to go to sleep at 1pm? I decided to spend my day being productive! I started to chop some wood and make some armor. I also read a book or two. I went over to the pub and rented a small room. <10 gold seems a little much for just one night>. I spent the night there and took off for Bleak Falls Barrow in the morning. I hiked up the hill killing a few wolfs. . Some bandits started attacking me from a tower. I ran in and killed them all . I leveled up again and took another Overdraw perk. I got plenty of arrows from the bandits though, so I guess it was a good thing to kill them. I went inside, and saw some more bandits by the fire. I missed my shot and ended up in a big arrow fight. It was pretty fun, and it gave me more time to get used to using bows in this game. . I fought some skeevers and contracted Antaxia :ahhh: As I continued through the dungeon, A HUGE SPIDER came down! Me and Faendal took it out rather quick . I found Arvel the Swift hanging in the Spider's web. He had the golden claw! I cut him down from the web, and he tried to run! . Let's just say he didn't even make it through the doorway . I looted the golden claw, amongst other things. I continued through the dungeon, and started being attacked by draugrs. They are rather easy to kill though. As i continued down the dungeon, I realized that it's full of treacherous traps! I saw a HUGE door with spikes on it. I thought that it would be triggered by a rope, but was I wrong.. so very wrong. I was slowly walking in front of it looking for a rope, when I realized that I already triggered it :swear: . It swung at me full speed and left me with 1/4 of my health. I was pretty nervous since I'm doing a Dead is Dead playthrough. I whipped out my healing spells, and healed up. I finally got to the door that the golden claw opened up. It took me at least 40 minutes to figure it out! I was getting so aggravated!! . I eventually got the door open and ventured in. The wall in the back was glowing blue. I was very intrigued by it and ran over to it. I got my first chant!! But, I can't use it yet . When I turned around, this Draugr overlord came out of his coffin! He was really strong! I thought that it was kind of BS that he could use a dragon chant. I didn't know that Draugr's learned how to use the voice. I found a tunnel that led be back to freedom.

This is where I left off. I'm heading back to Riverwood to spend the night, and then I will be off to Whiterun. I'm pretty pumped up now that i'm getting into the game. I will have a new update for tomorrow, although I may not be able to post one on Saturday. How do you guys like it so far?

Personally, I'm still loving it. I'm living vicariously through you, even though I've done all of this a million times. Ataxia (and other diseases) last until you drink a Cure Disease potion or activate the blessing of one of the many shrines. And yeah, they're called skeevers. I'm also liking how you're telling us which perks you take, and when, and what each one specifically does. That's great for a drunk guy like me. From a roleplaying perspective, I love that you're not fast traveling. Using the carriage if your objective is on the other side of the map is fine, but you still have to hoof it to your destination, which can lead to great things. Can't wait for the next update.

Hmm, wish I played Dead is Dead on my first playthough. It'll definitely force you to immerse yourself faster which definitely isn't a bad thing.

This.

I wish I had the balls for that at the start. I would've actually roleplayed the hell out of my first character.

With a nice PC, top graphic settings, the high res DLC and some transparency AA thrown in, the game really does look nice.

I feel that it will make me try a lot harder to avoid death, as apposed to just running around not caring about anything because I can just reload a save. It also makes role playing a lot easier, and role playing is the best when you actually have no idea what is going to happen. As apposed to role playing a 2nd or 3rd playthrough where you have to pretend that you don't know what is happening.

Thanks . I'm still debating on using the carriage or not. It is kind of like fast traveling, and you don't even need to have ever been to the place that you're getting a ride to. However, it does cost money and you still have to walk to the exact location. I will probably only use the carriage if it's really far away.
