Skyrim and SAPPHIRE HD 6870 1GB GDDR5

Post » Thu May 31, 2012 11:04 am

I was had (GeForce 250), and the game became very slow when I want to sell or buy or improve my items or searching items during the game, and I can’t buy a new video card. I will continue playing the game. But when I upgraded my video card into SAPPHIRE HD 6870 1GB GDDR5 PCIE to improve the performance of the game, but nothing has changed, and the game became worse than before.

Are you sure there are no driver conflicts? You did swap gpu brands. Also, not much to go on without the rest of your system specs bud.

When you upgraded, did you properly uninstall your Nvidia drivers, then install a recent AMD driver, then delete your ini files to let the game generate new ones?

Also, please uninstall your current AMD driver, and install 12.1 - http://www.techpowerup.com/159374/AMD-Releases-Catalyst-12.1-Drivers.html

The latest Catalyst drivers (12.3) are now out and should work well for you.

If you've carefully removed your old nVidia drivers, installed AMD's Catalyst, removed the Skyrim .INI files to let the game recreate them and changed the Skyrim configuration to set your new video card, there's no reason why your HD 6870 shouldn't run the game very well. What problems are you having, exactly? Is it only at the buy / sell window or while crafting? Are you running any mods?

No 12.3 has lots of problems, you are much better off with 12.1

I am not having a single problem with the new 12.3 drivers and I haven't seen a complaint yet. What problems are you talking about?

I have that very same graphics card and I run at 60 fps constantly.

Oh hey. Try turning off AA if you are getting the pixel problem. That fixed it for me .

According to your screen shot, you have at the very least 16 processes running on the task bar not including the rest of the system processes & no doubt all your back ground processes. That Catalyst process icon showing is usually good for 3 to 4 running processes. All those running process icons in the notification area is a huge problem for overall system performance. As an example, I have 3 processes running on the task bar, mouse driver, anti-virus, & GPU fan controller. Total processes running right now is 55 with Chrome being 5 of those, so when I shut Chrome off, its 50 processes total.

You seriously need to learn to optimize your OS.

I'm wondering, what version of skyrim are you using? I'm also wondering if you play at such a low resolution all the time, in which case your gpu upgrade would be completely pointless.

The new 12.3's are working fine for Skyrim, As were the 12.1 & 12.2 previews, It was the 12.2's & pre certs that caused the corruption.

I would suggest deleting the skyrim ini & skyrim prefs ini as a start, However it is good practice to reinstall a new OS every time you change GPU vendor as it rules out completely any driver conflict between Nvidia & AMD.

Good luck.

Hmmm, are you using a pirated version of the game? (I ask because I can't see a steam process running) Because that could be causing issues all over the place.

Could have steam icon set not to notify.....lets not burn him at the stake quite yet.
For the record the 12.3 is working fine if you install it correctly.

Haha with the amount of Oblivion mods I have manually installed? I'd rather have the odd flicker :P

I did. My computer kept Blue screening on me or crashed my games. I went back to 12.2 instead of 12.1 and it works great again.

Edit: Okay I uninstalled the driver with driver sweep and updated back to 12.3. Seems to be working correctly now.
