Skyrim or any other video game made you dizzy nauseated?

Post » Wed Jun 13, 2012 6:32 pm

Just a quick question to the masses; have you ever felt dizzy or light headed whilst playing Skyrim or any other video game?

I've just had to shut down my PS3 because of a sudden major head spin while playing Skyrim. This is the first time a video game has ever done this to me and I'll be honest, it scared me slightly :o I've heard of these things happening after long hours of play but I didn't really believe it. I was simply navigating the weapons menu, and as it slid out from the left side of the screen to open the weapons list that's when I went into drunk mode for a few seconds.

Has this happened to anyone else before? Or should I consider a visit to the doctors?

Your not the only one. After a while it can be like that. In Skyrim, i paticualry dont like it when it does that, pause, when looking up from a dark area to a light area sometimes. The delay makes me feel ugh! once the light hits my eyes.

And some of those slanted ship wrecks on the coast, i can hardly look at the screen when exploring them, because my brain cant cope with seeing things that it knows shouldnt be that way.

Not yet and I only play in 3D. I recently started playing Deus Ex in 3D and my eyes got tired after about an hour, but that's never happened to me in Skyrim.

Wow. I didn't suffer that bad. Sorry to hear, maybe just stay away from ship wrecks :P

I hope this is a one off for me though. I don't want to suddenly puke all over my controller when I witness a rabbit running across the plains of Skyrim!

Yes, I had a problem, and after I posted it on the forum, it turned out a quite a few other players had the same problem.

The issue: The underwater act in the expansion (and level increase to 85) in World of Warcraft. This was released several years ago, but I can't remember the name (next expansion after Wrath of the Lich King I think?)

I never found out what it was - I think Blizzard did something because they pushed out a patch that pretty much took care of it, if I remember correctly. Another reason I really like Blizzard - they were quick with a working correction.

I wear glasses, so maybe something there, don't know. Maybe a reflection(s) off of the water. But started to get sick after playing for a number of hours - and I was averaging close to 85 hours per week (on top of a regular job), with some (weekend) days turning into 17-18 hour sessions.

I actually had to play that act in several settings, with about a 3 hour limit and then a mandatory break before going back to it.

Good luck.

RAGE gets me messed up every time i spend more than 10 minutes on it. Probably cause I don't know the map. Also happens when I play COD until I know more of what the map looks like.

Interesting! So the more of a map you're familiar with the less it affects you? Dude, that's messed up o_O

For me, getting dizzy is a side effect of playing in first-person with a computer than can run Skyrim upwards of 60 FPS. Sometimes I just have to take a break after an hour or so :yuck:

My husband can't play the game longer than an hour or so because his 'eyes start to bother him'. Wouldn't even play before a pool tournament the other night. He says a friend said it was because of his astigmatism but I have that too and no problems whatsoever...

I get the feeling a lot. Only when I'm running up steps though oddly enough. It gives me instant headaches.

It might be because of the low FOV if you are sitting close to your tv. Try moving a bit further back.

I can't go back anymore unless I sit on my bed instead of my nice comfy bean bag :D

Personally I think I'm sitting far back enough. The screen doesn't dominate my vision so I think I'm alright there.

Lol :P FOV issues are more apparent on pc. If you sit too close to your screen and the FoV is too low, it is basicly like having tunnel vision. Some people don't handle that well, and can start feeling sick.

I get this when going up and down stairs in Skyrim... the camera shakes way to bad. No other game gives me this issue.

Yes, I have motion sickness. I just adapted my playstyle so that I don't turn quickly and it usually works. Sometimes after I play for awhile I feel ill, though. :(

Not since Quake 2 multiplayer.
Got extremely close to bazooka barfing with that the first few times.

Now, it's impossible for a game to disorient me in that manner - I'm resistant, and game design is superior.

I haven't had this problem with Skyrim I use to get it in Oblivion if I turned too often/quickly which I do a lot to scan around looking for stuff or getting around in a cave passage.
There are a very few other games this happens to me as well, I tried playing through it one time and felt sick for a week. Best to give yourself a break if you get the feeling.

When I upgraded from a 19" to a 22" monitor playing any games for like a week was horrible. I'd get terribly nauseas after like 15 mins of play. However I'm now used to it and it doesn't happen at all.

Sounds like you either just need to get used to it, or you may be one of those people who just has it happen. Whenever I played on Gamecube and my mom would watch, she'd always go, 'How can you play this? It makes me so dizzy!"

Like you, I'm a PS3 player, and Skyrim is the first game I've actually had to shut down for, because of nausea. Once the frame rate stutter kicks in, I can only tolerate it so far, before I unplug , wait 15 minutes and reload. Sometimes, I think, don't want to shut off now, only 5 minutes and I've finished my goal. Risky somewhat, haven't gone over yet, but gotten damn close to being sick! As for the patch 1.4 Doesn't seem to really stabilize frame rates well, once you are past a 15mb file size. No zero frames per second rate anymore, but still low enough, and more importantly osciallating all over the place to the point of annoyance and irritation. Thankfuilly I can use the Ogma Infinium glitch to re-start a game and play as an upper level character more quickly before hitting the game limits again.
