I know how most people here dont like Gamespot, IGN or other big sites, but theres some merit on being choosed as the best pc game of the year. Look how good were the nominees:

Batman: Arkham City
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
Portal 2
Total War: Shogun 2
The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings

I was reading the comments over there and Im amazed how many people hate Skyrim and love Witcher 2. The critics about skyrim are the same we see here: console port, bugs, bad UI, terrible quests etc.
I played witcher and was shocked how short it was. The graphics were fantastic and the gameplay/history pretty nice, but the game lacks content. My second place would go to Portal 2, amazing game.

Skyrim is the only one of the nominess that people will still be playing next year.

Which game would you choose as best pc game of 2011?

"Best of" without genre division is pointless.

What makes Skyrim, an action RPG, better than Portal 2, a puzzle game? Any why isn't Battlefield 3 better than both?

i would still go for Skyrim, because it has some kind off uniqness that suits me very wel, i have played the witcher 2 and i agree with the fact that its to damn short and lacking in content.

i believe there were genre specific best ofs.

its like Cruffs....They have best in show...but that could be a St Bernard Vs a Jack Russell....Not really the same....but they are!

I don't know? Batman AC just looked like a rip off of AC. So I wouldn't vote for it on those grounds alone. I enjoyed both Witcher games and think that they offer something unique to the RP genre. I found the Total War series to be boring and the same game over and over. Portal are quaint puzzle games; they're OK I suppose.

It would be a toss up between The Witcher 2 and Skyrim for me. /flips coin/ Witcher.

I enjoyed Skyrim over any of those except Batman, which I haven't played. Skyrim got loads of GOTYs, will get more, is probably the most sold single player RPG in the history of ever and, if i'm not mistaken, sold more copies than CoD. Overall, I enjoyed It as least as much as I enjoyed Morrowind, and being that my former favorite game, my choice is clear.

Haters gonna hate, though. Funny thing is not even /v/ bashes skyrim as much as this forums, It gets a lot of praise, actually (taking into account the nature of the board).

A good thing to keep in mind, whether it's games, movies, songs, or whatever, is that the latest item always gets higher ratings. Something about us humans, always liking what's newest!

Ever heard about nostalgia? I'd say quite the contrary...

In fact, humans have been reluctant to change since before our age, someone posted a quote about Cicero that I found quite interesting.

I recently unfollowed IGN...just not on the same page as I am so it started to annoy me and who needs that? I'd go #1 Skyrim and #2 Portal 2. Skyrim definitely is an amazing and awesome game and I had all kinds of fun playing Portal 2.

LOVE Skyrim. If Arkham City couldn't win it, I'm glad Skyrim did. Still can't wait to get my hands on the Witcher 2 though.

I also loved Portal 2, but It was like... 4 hours long? I completed It with a pal in a single afternoon.

I actually bought it without researching online. Given my strict one hour = one dollar rule when purchasing games, I was a little bummed. It was great, possibly even awesome. But I can't justify $60 on an eight hour game with little to no replayability.

Witcher 2 was decently long if you ignore Act, heh.

Tell that to the holdouts who claim MW was the pinnacle of TES games.
