Skyrim to be Bethesda's last 360 title?

Post » Thu Dec 08, 2011 3:16 pm

Bethesda Game Studio is hiring new employees what is interesting to me is this

Under the Senior World Artists responsibilities is:
Model and texture high and low resolution 3D environmental assets for next generation products.

Under the Quest Designers Responsiblities is:
Design and document stories and quests for future next generation products

I am guessing Skyrim could be the last 360 title for bethesda

No, they will probably want to get the most out of this new engine. Expect a new fallout title within the next 2-3 years.

Sweet. I hate PC games being held back by old console requirements.

I doubt Fallout 4 will be on the current gen consoles. I doubt also that the current gen consoles will last another 3 years.

The 360 is Bethesda's most profitable platform. They will make games for it as long as they can. Game developers don't dictate the rate of console progression - console manufacturers do.

Rumors say Microsoft's next gen console will appear in late 2013. It's hardly "PC elitism" to say that the 360 is nearing the end of its cycle.

Console manufacturers may dictate, but with Microsoft Bethesda would have to be ready to jump to their new platform quick. Unless of course Microsoft decides to continue to allow games to be developed for the 360. They cut off the original Xbox pretty quickly, unlike Sony with the PS2.

Actually,I can see it being more plausible that this is the last "Elder Scrolls" game on the 360 and PS3

They won't be able to improve upon their graphics anymore past Skyrim on current generation consoles, they have hit that limit/wall in graphical and technical achievements.

And Im pretty sure they might save the next title for next-gen consoles so that way they can wow us.

It is true though, especially now nearing the end of the current console gen. Not that I mind so much, it forces developers to make games properly instead of having convoluted and needlessly large and haphazard game installations. Give them more resources and theyll use it... but that doesnt mean theyll use it well. Just look at some of the 360 launch games, theres a huge jump of quality(graphically) from then to now.

I think the rumor is 2013 for the end of this gen. Enough time for another Fallout, which I look forward to.

Oh good, I won't have to worry about buying it because the Mayans will have returned in their spaceship and blasted us to oblivion a year beforehand.

I think Fallout 4 will be their last this gen, and the next Elder Scrolls will be on next-gen.

Guys they clearly stated they were even considering holding back Skyrim for the next generation of consoles because of the technology within the 360 not being idle for a "new" game. I certainly hope they wait for new systems to release before they create another epic game... I love my current systems and my PC but my thoughts are that when the new systems do come out they will be at least as powerful as gaming PCs in 2014 / 2015 which means the next game they make will be 100% better than making yet another 360 / PS3 release.

Like it or not consoles (Xbox 360) is holding back the gaming industry right now. At least for multi-platform games. PC only games like MMOs are held back by the masses not having great computers. Games like Skyrim suffer for the same reason BUT this time it is very clear that it was held back because of one particular system. Deal with it. Great game regardless.

In hiring requirements, "next-gen" just means high-poly, high-res, and with fancy maping.

It's not elitism, it's fact that the consoles are aging hardware...
Dunno why people always get offended when the facts are right in their face.

Please add PS3 to your statement before we get console wars, because its not JUST the Xbox 360,but BOTH the 360 and PS3.

Until we get a PS4 and Xbox 720 (Or whatever its going to be called),We have reached that limit on BOTH consoles.

My guess is a new Fallout will be made with the Creation? Engine like Skyrim, for all 3 consoles around 2013. Then out with another TES on a next gen console mebbe

I would but in all honesty the PS3 IS more powerful. I own both systems and love them both but the PS3 clearly has a longer lifespan graphics wise. At least in what it can pump out.

Xbox 360 is the problem as of right now. Why? Because unless a game is a PS3 exclusive the game is required to be made for the Xbox 360 as well... which means the PS3 / PC suffer.

Again I own and love BOTH consoles AND a PC. I don't hate the Xbox 360... it's just time to retire the darn thing here.

There is no console warfare. Sony and MS realize that technology is a changin and they are looking to the horizon to what their next-gen console will offer to the consumer.
All made by low paid chinese people of course.. who get crippling conditions forced to practice the same repetitive assembly movements 10-12 hours a day. But that is an off topic subject.

Considering the time/effort it takes to create a title like Skyrim yes it's probably the last 360 title. Now if you talking the Xbox 720, or whatever it's going to be called, then that is another story.

Like others have said... I think Fallout 4 will be there last title on 360/PS3. And it will use Skyrims base engine like Fallout 3/NV used Oblivions essentially.

I fear this generation is going to be out soon within 3 years or so-ish...

But JUST imagine NEX gen what Bethesda could REALLY DO! Yea...

Nah, Fallout will be.

Highly doubt that, 360 is supposed to be released in 2013. That would give less than two full years of development if it where to come out for current gen systems.
