Skyrim confused on video card : V

Computer calls my video a Radeon HD 6800 series instead of a 6850. Skyrim calls it a NVIDIA Geforce 8800 GS. If I set the settings at Very or Ultra high CTD's happen much more frequently and no place in particular. On medium with the Anti stuff OFF the CTD's diminish quite a bit. I am still able to play the game and life goes on.

are you using the ATI/Nvidia performance enhancer file thingy available around the web.. if so.. it's hardcoded to show 8800 series.

Additionally.. your 6850 IS a 6800 series.. this is normal.

Lastly... download and use the Skyrim 4GB Launcher..... that should clear up your CTDs mostly.

There is a mod that tricks Skyrim (also available for many other games) into thinking you have an 8800GS, which disables pretty much every graphics processing achievement of the past five years in order to get better framerates and fewer bugs. I believe you might have that mod installed.

It's probably a d3d9.dll file that the OP renamed to something else so it's not loaded.
