Skyrim crashing in Launcher

Post » Wed May 30, 2012 12:36 am

APPARENT SOLUTION: RUN STEAM IN OFFLINE MODE OR UNSUBSCRIPT TO MODS WHICH DON'T HAVE PICTURE (b/c of the crashed servers) ON THE WORKSHOP

I played Skyrim just fine today. I've also been playing during the Cmmunity & Workshop downtime (steam cloud blabla)

10 minutes ago I tried to open Skyrim and a message of "Skyrim has stopped working" bumped everytime I opened the game and was checking the mods.

I clicked on "verify game cache" and 2 files failed validation..
..downloading 900mb

What is this about? Could a mod have done that?
Err not a "mod" per-se, but having a corrupted file in this connecting and diconncting that caused the Launcher to crash.
Was it ok that I verified the cache? Or should have I just tried unckecking mods?

I have just found that other users are having the same problems..

Noticed this aswell. Would seem to be a pretty serious oversight if Bethesda forgot to code how the launcher should behave when no connection is available (when told there should be, since offline mode does work despite an error message), which seems to be the problem here.

I noticed that after Steam went down while lanchin Skyrim (or something like that) the skyrim subscription feed was like all weird with weird characters like backwards "E" and [censored].

At the very least, it is good to know that not only a few people have the same problem.

I'm having the same problem. Try validating Skyrim and see if any files need to be fixed.

Got it fixed.

Unsuscribe any of your mod installed (no need to delete them).
And voilà.

Waiting for a fix. My only suscribed mod was "Arrowsmith"

Hope this helps.

I knew it was smart to stay away from all of that stuff for a month or so.....never ever use fresh ware from Beth without reading the issues first. I don't even have my texture pack enabled yet. 1.4 and the game finally works great with 0 issues....not going to tempt fate.

if you play using steam offline, the game will work. you'll have all the mods as well if you saved the game with the mods active :) i just tried it out.

Confirmed, unsubscribing from all mods resolves the issue. This is frustrating.

I'm getting this since I removed a mod I had installed via Steam Workshop. Maybe a coincidence, I really don't know.

My launcher crashes when it gets to checking Midas Magic (If it goes in alphabetical order that is), the thing is... Midas Magic has disappeared from the Workshop =/

I think this is actually Valve's fault, not Bethesda's. Skyrim hasn't been updated.

yeah is something about steam, because if you run the game using Steam in offline mode...the game is working fine with all the mods you was using till your last savegame :)

It seems that it's just some mods that crash the launcher, seems that those without a picture in the workshop are the ones that crash the launcher. Maybe not all the steam servers are up? Those mods housed on those servers are the "bad" ones.

I can confirm that unsubscribing from mods fixes the problem. I have a few, but only 1 that is from the workshop. I unsubscribed and Skyrim ran like it should.

Getting this problem too. Is there anyway to unsubscribe from the mod if it isn't listed in the steam workshop anymore?

If you don't want to unsubscribe from your mods (like me) download SKSE and run skyrim through that, it bypasses the Skyrim launcher so it can't crash.

I've been trying different new ck mods since the first day the ck was released but stayed away from the workshop,i'm fully updated, skse updated blah blah blah but the first few mods i tried started to give me ctd's and one was on the game loadup screen.

i only play offline so it's not the server for me.

The thing is is that i think guys are rushing their mods out there and not warning that they only tested it for 5 mins.

i have the ck but not the texpack1.i think maybe everyone should go back to the old progs.

But of course my machine and setup is not everyones machine

Ok well since I have no mods brb gonna see if it happens for me to so we can narrow this down.

EDIT: OK popped the launcher up a few times messed with some settings other than that annoying failed to enumerate values thing that has been showing up randomly since 1.4 no error. Like I said no mods so I guess it has something to do with the mods or the steamworkshop etc.
